On the latest episode of America’s Next Top Model, Tyra Banks made her directorial debut. At the end of the episode, Tyra’s two-minute film featuring the final four contestants was aired. The shoot was shot at a castle in Verona, Italy and Tyra hoped to capture the sensuality of Romeo and Juliet in the short film and incorporating high fashion. Tyra’s ultimate goal was to create “over-the-top Italian drama.”
Tyra’s show usually features the final contestants participating in a shoot with Tyra working as the photographer. This season’s cycle marked the jump to film. Tyra explained to People Magazine the reason for the change. “A lot of designers and people in the fashion industry are feeling like the future of fashion is not just still photos, but they’ve been doing mini movies where the models are acting things out.” While Tyra wanted to film movement, her first film shoot did prove to be a challenge. Tyra revealed, “Photography has been my own personal hobby for the last 8 years, so I was ready for movement. But it was so hard.”Â
Tyra also revealed to People Magazine that the day of the shoot was a gruelling one for both her and the models. “It was 100 degrees and the girls were really struggling with the heat. But when I got to editing, I was like, ‘Oh my god, I love this!’”
Short films and possibly even feature films could be in Tyra’s future. She is currently focusing on the launch of her very own film production company-Bankable Studios.
The season finale of America’s Next Top Model will pit Ann against Chelsey, as they model on the runway for Roberto Cavalli.
