The latest recipients of a home makeover from ABC‘s Extreme Makeover Home Edition are the members of the Simpson family of Savannah, Georgia, who were surprised while dining at Paula Deen’s restaurant by Ty Pennington and the celebrity chef herself. Read on for all the details!

On November 12, Jim and Carmen Simpson and their children were eating at Paula Deen’s restaurant in historic Savannah, Georgia. They believed they were there to be honored for their volunteer work, along with numerous other families, so were very surprised when Ty Pennington and the Extreme Makeover Home Edition team, along with Paula Deen herself emerged from the kitchen to inform them they would be the recipients of a home makeover.

Jim and Carmen Simpson have three children, including eight year-old Isaac and four year-old Katelyn. Two year-old Zo’ was a medical miracle baby. He was born prematurely with a deadly condition and not expected to survive more than 24 hours. Zo’ also had detached retinas which guaranteed blindness – doctors declared that he would never be able to breathe, see, or walk on his own.  Zo’ proved them wrong, however, when his eyes healed and his lungs began to function on their own. Today, he still face challenges and is developmentally delayed, but is growing and doing well.

The Simpsons relocated to Savannah for Zo’s hospital visits, and repay their blessings to the community by giving back and volunteering. The family is in need of a home that can accommodate Zo’s needs, however, and that is where Extreme Makeover Home Editon comes in.  Paul DiMeo, Tracy Hutson, Ed Sanders, Ty, and JT Turner Construction will do this build.  During the build,  volunteers from The Lady and Sons, Uncle Bubba’s, and Paula Deen Enterprises served 300 dinners to the hardworking volunteers on site!

I Love Paula Deen! She is such an awesome lady! I recently saw her live on her tour. I’m going to eat at The Lady & Sons when I go back to Ga.

I really like Extreme Makeover Home Edition. I hope to see their show on for years to come. I don’t under stand why they have Paula Deen on from time to time. Paula Deen uses products from and supports the food producers Smithfield. Smithfield is the worst perpetrator of inhumane treatment of animals in their factory. It’s really really horrific, just look it up. The worst thing about it, Paula Deen knows about it and just doesn’t care. Paula Deen and Extreme Makeover is not a good fit.
