On The Fashion Show Ultimate Collection, Laura Brown has stepped up from presiding over the mini challenges in season one to being a permanent judge in season two. As a judge on the Bravo reality show, Brown brings to the table years of experience working as a fashion reporter and features director for some of the top magazines.
Hailing from Australia, Laura Brown came to New York City in 2001 after working for Harper’s Bazaar Australia as a features editor. Once in the States, she worked freelance and then took on the role of senior editor at W, articles director at Details and then found herself back at the fashion, beauty and lifestyle magazine Harper’s Bazaar, where she now works as a features and special projects director.
As the features and special projects director for Harper’s Bazaar, Laura Brown works with the editor-in-chief Glenda Bailey (who appeared on Season One of The Fashion Show) to create stories and celebrity covers that cause a stir. She is the one to conceptualize feature ideas and make them a reality by casting the right celebrity for the photo shoot and creatively bringing Glenda’s to life. Clearly she has a knack for knowing what looks good and what catches the public’s attention, which will serve her well as a judge on The Fashion Show.
Of her judging style for Season Two of The Fashion Show, Laura Brown told the New York Post, “We become much nicer in the second episode because the clothes get better — but I’m normally quite a nice lass. My judging philosophy is more like, ‘that looks like you were sober while making the top and drunk doing the bottom.’ I’m not just there to kill dreams for sport – that’s not how I like to spend my days. Plus, it doesn’t get the designers anywhere.”
