The Bachelorette: Former Contestant Starts Organization to End Teen Suicide

November 21, 2010 08:00 AM by Shayla Perry

Former contestant of ABC’s The Bachelorette, Frank Neuschaefer is working to prevent teen depression and suicide by starting his own organization, Chi Omicron. What was Frank’s inspiration? We’ve got all the details!

Frank Neuschaefer, known for participating in Season 6 of ABC’s The Bachelorette, is joining a long list of celebrities by making an effort to put an end to teen suicide and depression.

Neuschaefer has started his own non-profit organization, Chi Omicron, with hopes of helping high school students, in particular, to deal with depression and suicide.

In an interview with Halogen, Frank revealed that in 2008 the cousin of his longtime girlfriend committed suicide, and as the former Bachelorette contestant watched her family and friends mourn and try to cope with the tragedy, he wondered to himself why someone so smart and beautiful would take her own life.

At the wake, members of the cheerleading squad posted large signs filled with positive messages from fellow classmates. It was these signs that inspired Frank, who thought that sharing such positive thoughts could potentially save someone’s life.

Chi Omicron, or XO (as in kisses and hugs) is set up to work like a fraternity for high schools. The organization’s mission states that it “will promote safer, friendlier high schools by creating a student fraternity centered on compassion and aimed at helping those in need.”

Students at high schools throughout the country are encouraged to contact the website for help establishing their own XO chapter, and adults looking to help the organization further spread its message are welcome to submit proposals to join the Board of Directors.
