The bad boys of extreme sports are ready to brave the world of reality TV! VH1′s newest reality show, The X Life, will feature three action sports stars and their better halves living life on the edge, and VH1 promises the show “will bring a real adrenaline rush to TV.” Read on for all the info!
What do you get when you mix extreme sports and the drama of reality TV?
The X Life! The new reality show, which premieres on VH1 in January, follows vert skater Pierre-Luc Gagnon, BMX biker Cory Nastazio, FMXer Jeremy Stenberg, and their wives/girlfriends as they go through their daily lives. And according to the network, life for an extreme sports star is, well–extreme.
“The stars of action sports and the women who love them don’t just live life on the edge, they go beyond it, whether they’re on the track, the trail or just living their lives, and we couldn’t be more thrilled to bring that wild ride to VH1,” said VH1′s Executive Vice President of Original Programming and Production, Jeff Olde, in a press release.
But what viewers will see when the show premieres in January will be quite a departure from the original concept.
“When the show first got pitched, it was going to be a ‘Housewives’-type show and it was going to be about our girlfriends,” said Gagnon. “After the first show was shot in Las Vegas at the first stop of the Dew Tour, they thought we were a big part of the equation so they wanted to switch it up and, you know, make it more family friendly.”
And Gagnon is hoping that the show will bring a new audience to extreme sports.
“It’s definitely a good way to promote skateboarding and what we do,” he said. “If we can bring that audience and get them to watch vert skating or FMX or BMX, that would be awesome. You’ve got Shaun [White] and he’s bringing his Olympic snowboarding audience to vert skating and it’s really helping the sport. It felt like a TV show would have a similar effect.”
