Skating With The Stars: Week Two Ends In The First Elimination

November 29, 2010 08:05 PM by Lori Wilson

The six figure skating celebrities perform either a tango or a swing routine, as week two of Skating With the Stars gives viewers what they were secretly hoping for last week – the first wipeouts of the season. The first elimination is also made after both weeks’ scores are combined, along with the viewer votes. Keep on reading to find out who gets the axe from Skating With the Stars.

The required elements for week two include changes in levels (such as standing to lunging), intricate steps that are actually considered figure skating and lifts. For the ladies, the judges are looking for them to lift themselves and hold it, while the men must exude strength and trust from their partners.

Professional skier Jonny Moseley and Brooke Castile skate a peppy swing routine to “Jump, Jive An’ Wail.” Skating With the Stars judge Johnny Weir is blown away by his performance, especially his rotational lift. Johnny also notes he had real footwork, but suggests he look up more. Judge Laurie Ann Gibson wants Jonny to keep up with the music. Jonny receives a total score of 44.

Motley Crue’s Vince Neil and Jennifer Wester must perform a tango. Jennifer brings in her real life skating partner to show Vince how to lead her around the ice. Vince is confident he will wow the judges and give them a real Vince Neil show. Vince and Jennifer skate to a dramatic Tom Waits sounding version of “Roxanne.” After the first lift, Neil goes down, but he gets back on his skates and recovers fairly nicely. Judge Dick Button enjoys Vince’s personality and tells the rocker not to worry about mistakes, but hopes Vince spends the next week working on his skating skills. Laurie Ann calls Vince’s attitude absolutely tango and masculine. Johnny thinks Vince nailed the musicality, but recommends he get the basics down. Vince receives a total score of 30.

The Real Housewives of New York City‘s Bethenny Frankel and Ethan Burgess have a hard time working around her grueling schedule. Bethenny works on very little sleep, but she is determined to go all the way for both her and Ethan. The duo perform the swing to a song I’m unfamiliar with, but Bethenny seems to have more personality this week. However, Laurie Ann felt like it was still stiff and wants her to get through the routine without looking like she is waiting for the choreography. Johnny thinks Bethenny has improved her skating skills, but she needs to work on basic things and he wants to see more character. Dick thinks she looks good, but she needs to bend her knees and then he makes some off the wall cooking references. Bethenny receives a total score of 33.

‘Sonny with the Chance” star Brandon Mychal Smith and Keauna McLaughlin perform a tango to another song I don’t know. Their routine is entertaining, smooth and full of personality. Brandon exudes confidence and ease and even throws a moon walk in there. Johnny loves it, calling it ferocious and sexy and notes Keauna completely trusted Brandon with the lift. Dick really enjoys the performance dubbing it spectacular, but he thinks Brandon was hovering over his partner and wants him to stand up more. Laurie Ann notes the duo had a great connection throughout the routine. Brandon receives a total score of 49.

Actress Sean Young and Denis Petukhov work on Sean’s fear this week by going indoor skydiving. The duo then skate a swing to “Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy.” Sean is the second star to fall – not once, but twice. She gets up with a smile on her face both times though. Dick tells her it’s nice to see her get some giggle in her wiggle (or something like that) and Laurie Ann was disappointed to see her fall because she started off so strong. Johnny knows Sean gave them character and aside from the falls she did great. Sean receives a total score of 30, tying Vince Neil.

All My Children‘s Rebecca Budig and Fred Palascak decide they can’t rely on their impressive debut from last week and delve into their tango, set to “Whatever Lola Wants.” Rebecca seems to have a bit of a misstep, but she gives an otherwise strong performance. Laurie Ann thinks the routine was intense and declares they have a competition. Johnny, on the other hand, wanted more sex kitten from her. Dick echoes Johnny, saying she performed all the right steps, but he wants more passion and intensity from her. Dick wants to be seduced! Rebecca receives a total score of 44.

After both week’s scores are combined, Rebecca remains at the top of the leaderboard, while Vince stays at the very bottom. When the viewer votes are added into the mix, Vince & Jennifer and Sean & Denis receive the lowest combined totals. In the end though, Sean and Denis are the first pair to be eliminated from Skating With the Stars.
