American Idol: Idol Alums Get Grammy Nods

December 03, 2010 07:00 AM by Shayla Perry

Since it first premiered, American Idol has been known for producing great artists. Though the “Idol effect” has recently been questioned, three alums of the FOX reality show have been nominated for Grammy Awards against some pretty big competitors, proving that in the end, it all comes down to talent. What Idols are up for Grammy Awards in 2011? Keep reading to find out!

Adam Lambert, the only Grammy nominee from the show that didn’t win the title of American Idol, has been nominated in the category of Best Pop Male Vocal Performance for his single “Whataya Want From Me” from the album For Your Entertainment.

Lambert is joined in this category by Michael Jackson, Michael Buble, Bruno Mars, and John Mayer.

Fantasia, who has had a very rocky year, both personally and professionally, has been nominated in the Best R&B Female Vocal Performance for a solo vocal performance for her single “Bittersweet” from the album Back to Me.

Fantasia is up against fellow nominees like Faith Evans, Monica, Kelly Price, and Jazmine Sullivan.

“Bittersweet” has also been nominated for Best R&B Song, though if it wins, the Grammy will go to the songwriter, and not Fantasia.

Fantasia’s album, Back to Me, is nominated for Best R&B Album against works from artists John Legend & The Roots, Monica, Jaheim, and Raheem DeVaughn.

Carrie Underwood, no stranger to the Grammy Awards, is up for Best Female Country Vocal Performance for her single “Temporary Home” from the album Play On.

Other artists nominated with Carrie are Jewel, Miranda Lambert, LeAnn Rimes, and Gretchen Wilson.

Tune in to the 2011 Grammy Awards February 13 on CBS to cheer on your favorite AI nominees!
