Kim Kardashian of E!’s Keeping up with the Kardashians sacrificed her life this week–well, her digital life–pledging to give up Twitter and Facebook until $1 million is raised for one of her favorite charities, Keep a Child Alive. But with a very slow, start, it looks like it’ll be a long time before we see any new tweets from @kimkardashian.
Kim, along with other big celebs, like Lady Gaga, Justin Timberlake, Ryan Seacrest, Usher, and Alicia Keys all shut down their social networking pages in honor of World AIDS Day on December 1, hoping to reach the million dollar mark.
But by Thursday, the stars hadn’t yet received $200,000, so it seems as though it’s going to take a little longer than expected.
As part of the fundraiser, many celebs, including Kim, were photographed in caskets, and even went as far as filming “last tweet and testament” videos.
“I’ve decided to sacrifice my digital life to help give real life to millions of people affected by HIV and AIDS in Africa and India,” Kim said in her video. “It’s true, I’m a little obsessed with Twitter, but I’m even more obsessed with fighting AIDS.”
The mission of Keep a Child Alive is to provide life-saving treatment, care and support services to children and families affected by HIV/AIDS in Africa and India by getting people around the world involved in the fight to end AIDS.
“We’re trying to sort of make the remark: Why do we care so much about the death of one celebrity as opposed to millions and millions of people dying in the place that we’re all from,” said president and co-founder of Keep a Child Alive, Leigh Blake.
