Melissa Rycroft of ABC’s The Bachelor and hubby Tye Strickland are expecting a baby girl early next year, and Melissa recently dished with Celebrity Baby Scoop about her pregnancy–from her diet, to cravings, and how the daddy-to-be is holding up.
CBS: Congratulations on your pregnancy. How are you feeling?
MR: I’m doing OK, just getting bigger. I’m doing well. I’ve been feeling really well and other than the belly getting bigger, you wouldn’t really know that I’m pregnant.
CBS: Any strange cravings?
MR: Absolutely none. I have no cravings. I have no aversions. I’ve gotten away from all that. It’s like I said, I don’t even feel like I’m pregnant other than I’m carrying twenty extra pounds on my body. I’ve heard that I got lucky that I don’t have to fight the urge for the sweets that most people crave when they’re pregnant.
CBS: You look amazing! What’s your secret? Are you working out? Watching your diet?
MR: No secrets. I just got really lucky that my body’s really not craving anything so I’m not having to fight cakes, cookies, and cupcakes, and midnight runs to the fast food stores down the street. I’ve basically been able to eat the way that I ate pre-pregnancy, and just stayed healthy and worked out as much as possible which is not a whole lot right now. I think if I had been having cravings it would have been a whole different situation.
CBS: How have you been preparing for the baby? Reading books? Getting the baby room ready?
MR: I’m reading a few books and we’re slowly getting the room ready. We’re not decorating it or putting any of the furniture in until January. No need to rush it too soon. We signed up for classes that we’re going to start taking and just started stocking up on clothes and all that fun stuff. We’re making baby steps.
CBS: Are you excited that it’s a girl.
MR: I would have been excited either way, honestly. It’s baby number one so everything’s such a shock and such a surprise. We didn’t have anything to balance out. It’s not like we had a boy and needed a girl, but now that we know it’s a girl we’re absolutely thrilled. We couldn’t imagine her not being a girl now.
CBS: How’s Tye doing? Is he a nervous dad-to-be or does he feel ready?
MR: He has his moments, just like we all do where we go, ‘Oh my gosh, I’m going to be a parent and she’s really coming now, and every day it’s sooner and sooner.’ But he’s so excited. He talks to my tummy every night. And she started kind of responding. She’ll be really calm and he’ll put his face up to my belly and talking to her and then she’ll start kicking in the direction of his face. There are ways that they can bond. He helps buy her stuff. He can’t wait to meet the little one because he’s already wrapped around her little finger.
