There may be many changes in store for season 10 of FOX’s American Idol, but one thing remains–Hollywood Week! And we’ve got the inside scoop on what’s going on with the 300+ Idol hopefuls PLUS, a much anticipated (and over-hyped) look at judges Jennifer Lopez and Steven Tyler in action!
As of Tuesday, the number of American Idol hopefuls has been drastically cut, though it had to be with over 300 contestants invited to take part in Hollywood Week this year.
Having so many more contestants may seem like it makes the process of narrowing down the talent a little tougher, but according to one source, “You can tell the ones that have the right energy.”
Throughout the week, American Idol contestants lined the halls of a nearby Pasadena hotel, where many of them are staying, practicing for a 7-30 second performance in front of the judges. According to a source, the contestants weren’t critiqued by the judges after their performances, instead, the judges consulted with an executive producer after all of the performances were done and a large cut was made.
SPOILER ALERT: There were lots of performances of “Son of a Preacher Man”–again, and many tears after the cut. After all these changes, we can’t get some new songs from the contestants?!
Two of the many aspiring singers cut this week were a female contestant from New York who lost her job as a result of going to Los Angeles for the competition (isn’t there at least one of those every season?), and a guy from Louisiana who raised $1,000 from his co-workers to spend while he was in L.A.. A third Idol hopeful is happily returning home from Hollywood (so he says) just in time to witness the birth of his newborn child.
This week, FOX also released much anticipated clips of new judges, Jennifer Lopez (aka “Jenny from the Block”, aka “J-Lo”) and Steven Tyler in action. We’re still trying to figure out what all the fuss is about, but you can check out the exclusive clips of Jennifer Lopez and Steven Tyler for yourself by clicking here and here.
WARNING: Prepare to be greatly disappointed.
Season 10 of American Idol premieres Wednesday, January 19 on FOX.
