Skating With The Stars: Thrill Week

December 13, 2010 07:23 PM by Lori Wilson

It’s thrill week on Skating With the Stars, which means the stunts get more dangerous. Not only do things get more exciting routine-wise, but after falling ill last week, we learn Brandon Mychal Smith’s Skating With the Stars fate and how it will affect the rest of the figure skating pairs.

During thrill week on Skating With the Stars, the pairs must perform two stunts in their programs. The pairs have the option of tackling the death spiral, the throw and/or the overhead lift. Since these stunts are so tricky, Olympian pairs skater John Zimmerman is brought in to help all the celebrity teams perfect them in just one week.

Brandon Mychal Smith’s condition is updated and we learn that due to the doctor’s diagnosis, he will not be able to continue the competition. Since Brandon won’t be back, that means no one will be eliminated this week, sending all three remaining figure skating pairs to the finals next week.

The Real Housewives of New York City‘s Bethenny Frankel is up first and she and her partner Ethan Burgess have chosen the death spiral and the overhead lift, which they pull off nicely. She obviously has been working on loosening up on the ice, but she still is the most awkward celebrity skater left. After their routine, Dick Button tells Bethenny her skills are good, but she needs to bend her knees and flow better. He then says, “Ice is nice, but liquor can be quicker.” Uh, okay. Laurieann gives her credit for being fearless, but suggests she add more dance to her routines. Johnny Weir tells Bethenny since she isn’t listening to their critiques and since she said she doesn’t care what the the judges think, he doesn’t care to watch her skate. Ouch. Bethenny receives an overall score of 38.

Olympic skier Jonny Moseley and his partner Brooke Castile opt for the overhead lift and the throw. Even though Johnny is nervous about the new stunts, they go off without a hitch. Laurieann lavishes Jonny with praise, especially for taking the judges’ comments to heart. Johnny calls the performance incredible, but both he and Laurieann suggest Jonny take a ballet class for finesse. Dick loved the lifts, pointing out how hard they really are to perform. Johnny receives a total score of 54, his highest yet.

All My Children‘s Rebecca Budig and Fred Palascak choose to perform the overhead lift and death spiral, which they perform with ease and grace. Not to mention, they perform three lifts, not just one, which all seem to be the most ambitious of the evening. Johnny praises them for the routine, but tells Rebecca she needs to not rely on Fred so much and show them her individual skating more. Dick tells Rebecca she has the nicest bottom in the whole competition, but it was sticking up too much during one of the lifts. However, since her butt is so nice, he doesn’t care. Laurieann wants to see more sexiness and something spectacular from her next week. Rebecca receives a total score of 53.

Ending the evening’s performances, eliminated professional skater Denis Petukhov joins Keauna McLaughlin in what would have been her and Brandon’s routine.

Next week is the finale of Skating With the Stars and Rebecca, Jonny and Bethenny will all be back to battle it out as the winner is crowned. Who do you think will take home the top prize?

for a 3rd rate show, these judges seem to think themselves first rate, Johnny Weir should stay on the ice and away for the mike, He is a rude self centered and totally boring. Simon Cowel he is not. To declare war on a contestant is uncalled for. This is my last night to watch. ever

I think Bethany has been rude and snotty and deserved what Johnny Weir said to her. And she hasn’t listened to the judges critiques like the other skaters have. She’s pretty full of herself and the only reason she’s still around is that Vince Neil was worse and Brandon whatshisname is sick!

All three judges had very mean comments the first two shows for Bethenny like there was a vendetta against her. I don’t blame her for saying she didn’t care what the judges say. Johnny Weir was not professional last night, and I will never watch the show again! Love you Bethenny!!!!

Hopefully this show will die a fast death. Johnny Weir needs to grow up, when he skated he did everything but cry to wim. He’s also freakish and who gives him or the woman the right to judge the skaters. He was only 3rd rate as a skates and what does the woman know about dancing and skating at the same time. Let her get on the ice and try.
Mr. Button maybe a legend but no right to be so rude week after week . Johnny Weir MUST go and as for the winner, we have always know the show is fixed and it was always Jonny Mosley for the winner. BECAUSE HE WAS A GOLD MEDAL WINNER AND THE 2 SKATES COULD NOT ALLOW AN ACTRESS OR REALITY WINNER BE TOP DOG.

Bethany is such a breath of fresh air. Comgrats on giving her, her own show!!! Last year was wrenching watching Jill Zaran tear Bethanny apart. Then trying to deny it. It is good that Bethanny moved on, on her own and thank you for letting her do that!!!! Please don’t ever cancel her show!! She is truly a reality star and not looking for fame and fortune.

Johnny Weir needs to take his overly madeup, overly gelled, overly gussied up self and GET OVER IT. He’s obviously groping for bucks and hoping to be the Mean of Queen……lose him or lose viewers.

Having a “judge” such as Johnny Weir is a joke and makes this show seem like a U Tube skit. Why is it you ask people with supposedly very little skating experience to appear on the show, put their well being at risk and then slam them for not doing well. As verified by the severe injury of a professional skater, I would think that you would treat your guests with some respect. The judges are jokes, they are rude and insulting, attempting to be cute and entertaining which they are NOT! You need to find better judges that show respect to your guests and not go off on their tantrums. How this show got on and remains on the air is a mystery to me!

There you go!!!!!! power to the people! Just heard that Bethenny is still on. That’s what those mean judges get for lashing out at Bethenny. Heard all three judges were kissing her ass tonight. What phonies. Now they are nice to her? Too late. They showed their true colors. Cadee said it best. Go Bethenny!!!!
