Hell’s Kitchen: Season Eight Finale – The Winner Is……

December 15, 2010 08:27 PM by Lisa Princ

Tonight is the season eight finale of Hell’s Kitchen on FOX and we’ll see Chef Gordon Ramsay choose a winner. But will it be Nona Sivley or Russell Kook who will win the ultimate culinary showdown? If you think you know who wins, you may be shocked – keep reading for all the details!

First up on the season eight finale of Hell’s Kitchen on FOX, Chef Ramsay takes both Nona and Russell on a helicopter ride over the city, only to have them put on parachutes and take a dive! Then it is time for their final challenge: creating a five course meal which each dish being judged by a top notch LA food guru. Nona decides to go with simple yet elegant southern dishes, while Russell goes with more of a European cuisine. Each one of them wins one course one by one until they each have 2 and they are on their last course which will be judged by LA Market owner, Kerry Simon. Kerry determines that Russell’s dish would be a better fit for the LA Market, leaving Russell with the win and Nona with her jaw hanging.

When they return to the dorm, it is eerily quiet and both Russell and Nona sense that something is up but are still surprised when 8 eliminated contestants jump out at them! Then they all head down to Chef Ramsay to get geared up for the night’s dinner service. Russell gets to choose the first member of his team as his reward for winning the challenge and he chooses Jillian as his first choice. Nona then chooses Gail as her first choice and Russell unsure where Vinny’s loyalties lie asked Vinny if he was up for it and Vinny says he is, leading Russell to choose him. Ultimately Russell’s team consists of Jillian, Vinny, Sabrina, and Rob while Nona’s team is made up of Gail, Trevor, Melissa and Boris – oh yes, good ole sweaty Boris is back one more time.

When it is time for dinner service on the season eight finale of Hell’s Kitchen, both kitchens have their share of ups and downs. In Russell’s kitchen Vinny immediately messes up the scallops, but was it done on purpose? Vinny swears he is a professional and will not sabotage Russell’s possible victory. Vinny quickly rebounds despite having a bit of an attitude, but then another eliminated contestant begins messing up for Russell and that would be Sabrina. Sabrina decided that it would be a smart move to cook the steak in stock which is not what Chef Ramsay does. Russell decides to make a last minute switch and puts Sabrina on the fish and Vinny on the meat and that seems to work better for his team. However, Russell as usual shows his temper when Rob gets annoyed about something – I mean honestly, can this guy run a kitchen with threats?

In Nona’s kitchen things are moving along smoothly for the most part…..that is until Boris starts firing up the fish station. One by one all of the fish that Boris sends up to the pass are raw and Nona is about to lose patience when she calmly reminds him that it needs another minute in the oven. However, she does blow up Chef Ramsay style when Trevor and Boris start fighting because Trevor is trying to help save the fish station. After finally getting the fish right, Boris is on a roll working fine when Nona gets another setback: Melissa on the meat station. For whatever reason Melissa just can’t get it together for Nona’s husband, who is waiting for his meal with their son. Nona cracks the whip and gets her team moving again and they finally pull together and get dinner service perfected and finished.

After saying goodbye to everyone, Russell and Nona head upstairs to await Chef Ramsay’s call. When they get back downstairs, Chef Ramsay tells them that is was an extremely close game between them and he would hire them both if he could. His decision was based on both comments from the diners of each kitchen as well as what he saw all night long in the kitchen during service. Then it is time to place their hands on the handles and on the count of three I think most of us were shocked to see Nona’s door open! I thought for sure Russell was going to win, but I can only assume Chef Ramsay did not like his attitude as the viewers didn’t. Congratulations to Nona Sivley, the season eight winner of Hell’s Kitchen on Fox!

Although Russell appeared to have a little more talent and refinement then Nona, it was his attitude that did him in. Even when losing, he showed his true colors by blaming his team and everyone else except himself.

You can’t bully your team. Whether in war, business or personal life, bullies never win.

He’s a sore loser that only has himeslef to blame.

Kudos to Nona. I hope she enjoys her new found fame and fortune.

i just want to say gordon got it right !!!!! good job bloke ! nona earned her position with hard work and getting her kitchen mates to work as one god bless nona were all very proud of you in my family. as far as russel goes his lack of team work and showing the people he needed them should have been enough, “no one likes a bullie” thank you for a great season XO XO

I am glad Nona won it if that clown Russell won I would of been sick he was not a good sport as long as he was winning he was ok but the moment someone else won he was as he kept saying PISSED like a little boy that always got his own way. Ramsey saw his attitude in the last show how could he have worked with anyone the owner of LA Market would have had it bad trying to get other employees to work with Russell Congratulations Nona a real fine job wish you all the best

Nona, you deserved every golden dollar rewarded! You are a fine team player with tenacity, drive, combined with professionalism and a kind hearted spirit. It was a shear delight to see you show up Russell. Well done, my dear!!
Now, Russell, you need to start with anger management courses before you expect success in a profession requiring a great deal of team work. Your egocentric demeanor will surely be your worst downfall, it will even surmount your skills in the kitchen. I also question your trustworthiness and fidelity toward your poor “girlfriend”. Russell, you are still young and I hope you are capable of learning by so many of the viewers remarks concerning your downfalls. Some how though, I don’t hv a great deal of faith in this as you hv not yet acquired wisdom in any form.
My hat’s off to our Nona and her family!!!

NONA! YOU GO GIRL!!That Russell was a jerk to everyone and in the end, he want the same people he was mean to to make him win. He might have been a good cook, but his attitude stunk more than a skunk. I’m good though, Nona was a great cook and #1 in my eyes. Wishing you and your family the best, Nona. Happy Holidays!

I totally agree with you all. Nona rocks and if you read her interview with me, she was a total sweetheart as well. Ironically, Russell did not do any interviews after the fact, probably because he was still sulking. Ramsay definitely saw that anger issue going on with him thankfully :)
