Some folks may call him a game player as Patrick House made the decision weeks ago to vote Mark off The Biggest Loser ranch telling Mark “Sorry, man. I don’t think I can beat you.” And he was correct – if Mark had made it to the finale, he would have beaten Patrick with his 213 lb weight loss. After winning, Patrick told reporters that he knew exactly what he was doing to win the game as he said “I went into the whole ‘Biggest Loser’ scenario with the idea that I was just going to work out and not get involved and all that (alliances and game-play) and I quickly realized early on that you need to have friends, you need to have allies that have your back, if you’re planning on making it far in this game. And that’s what it boils down to at the end: This is a game. Yeah, we’re changing our lives and we’re getting our lives back, and I did that. But at the same time, there’s a quarter-of-a-million-dollar check that’s dangling there at the end. And Mark just happened to be one of the guys that was in the way of me getting to that money for me and my family….Sometimes, the team that wins the Super Bowl doesn’t have the best record.”
How is Patrick dealing with his new found health and body while at home? He claims he still feels like the fat man some days as he shares “Just the other day, my wife and I were at a restaurant eating, and they set us in a booth that was kind of in a corner against the wall. I immediately looked at it and said, ‘There’s no way I’m going to fit over there. I’m too big.’ And my wife said, ‘Just sit down. You’re fine.’ Mentally, I’m kind of overcoming the barriers of realizing that, hey, I am healthy now. I’m in shape. I’ve changed my life, and now it’s time for me to do the things that I never could do before. I’m realizing now the things that I missed out on, being overweight, and I’m looking forward to having a great time with my boys and chasing them around the yard and not getting worn out in just a couple of minutes of running with them. My life is forever changed.”
Congratulations again to Patrick House, who in January will be packing up his family and heading to South Carolina for his new job at Mindstream Academy where he can use his knowledge and pay it forward.
The new season of The Biggest Loser on NBC premieres on January 4, 2011 so be sure to tune in!
