Another celeb with tax trouble! This time it’s American Idol judge, Jennifer Lopez’s husband, singer and actor Marc Anthony. According to reports, Anthony owes a whopping $3.4 million in property taxes! Read on for all the details.
Luckily, Jennifer Lopez’s love don’t cost a thing, because Marc Anthony really doesn’t need any more problems when it comes to money.
According to court documents filed March 29, 2010 by the state of New York, the singer, whose real name is Marco Antonio Muniz, was hit with a federal tax lien of $1.8 million for a property he owns in Long Island.
Anthony also had a lien filed against that same property in December of 2009 for $1.6 million.
A rep for Marc Anthony says that his financial team “reached an agreement in principle resolving all of [his] federal tax liabilities,” and stated that no additional comments will be issued about Anthony’s tax problems.
This isn’t the first time Marc Anthony has had tax troubles. Three years ago, in 2007, the singer paid $2.5 million in back taxes for failing to file returns on his $15.5 million income for 5 years. At the time, Anthony’s financial management company took the blame, pleading guilty to tax felony charges.
Anthony joins a long list of celebs in tax trouble, like Chef Gordon Ramsay, actors Nicholas Cage, Val Kilmer, and Wesley Snipes, who reported to federal prison on December 9th of this year to start his 3-year sentence for failing to pay his taxes.
Marc Anthony and Jennifer Lopez were married in 2004.
You can catch Jennifer Lopez on the season premiere of American Idol on Wednesday, January 19th at 8|7c on FOX.
