American Idol: Simon Cowell Trades Coke for Pepsi Due To X-Factor Sponsorship

The cola wars are over. Pepsi won the battle with Coke over sponsorship rights for former Fox American Idol judge Simon Cowell’s U.S. version of The X Factor. Read more to find out what Cowell had to say when asked which drink was better…

Fox announces Pepsi as the official X-Factor U.S. sponsor today. Cowell made clear his approval, stating it was the “right fit” for the show which he will be producing and judging for.

Cowell was asked what drink he prefers, Pepsi or Coke, and answered diplomatically, thanking Coke for their years of support for American Idol and saying he does love Pepsi’s taste.

According to the New York Times, the brand will get commercial time and have product integration in the show. It will be the only sponsor to stay for the entire season.

While Pepsi beat out Coke for the sponsorship, Fox is the clear winner getting big sponsors for both it’s singing competitions (Pepsi for X-Factor and Coke for Idol).

Nielson ratings reported Idol as having the most product placement out of any television series this year so it’s no surprise both Pepsi and Coke wanted in on the sponsorship.
