Although we just wrapped up Season ten of The Biggest Loser on NBC, our favorite weight loss show returned tonight for a brand new season. Season eleven premiered tonight with some big changes and we even met an Olympic gold medalist wrestler who is on the ranch trying desperately to get back in shape. Keep reading for all the exciting details on tonight’s premiere!
That’s right my fellow The Biggest Loser fans, season eleven premiered tonight on NBC and they kicked us off with twenty two new players, or eleven teams of friends and/or family members. Here is a rundown of the season eleven contestants:
Ana & Irene (orange team) – a mother and daughter team both weighing in at 255 lbs each. Irene is hoping to become the first college graduate in her family.
Denise 256 lbs & Sarah 261 lbs (pink team)- a mother and daughter team. Sarah has suffered multiple miscarriages and attributes that to her weight, while Denise has had eight children and never really lost the weight between kids.
Justin 365 lbs & Rulon 474 lbs (yellow team) – a team of friends who desperately need this help. Rulon is a former Olympic gold medalist wrestler who gained his weight when he continued to eat like he was still training for the Olympics but did not train for the Olympics. Rulon won a gold medal in 2000 and a bronze in 2004 before losing control of his eating. Rulon says his inspiration for doing the show came from season 9′s Michael Ventrella, the biggest player in the history of the show to lose the most weight ever. Rulon’s friend Justin is a family man who has watched the show and ended in tears realizing he weighed what most contestants do and that is when he decided he needed to change his life.
Moses 440 lbs & Kaylee 233 lbs (grey team) – a father and daughter team who live the food filled Tongan life. Moses says he was inspired by Danny Cahill, and also by watching Sam and Koli from season 9. Kaylee realized at her age of 20 years old that she is falling in to the same pattern as her dad and she wants them to both get healthy.
Hannah 248 lbs & Olivia 261 lbs (purple team) – a pair of sisters who both seek their health back. Hannah, who used to be an athlete had an accident which put an end to her athletic days and instead sent her in a downward spiral towards eating and gaining weight. Olivia, an opera singer is tired of losing roles to folks who look healthier than her and she was also diagnosed with PCOS which ultimately pushed her to realize that she may never have children if she does not get healthy.
Jaquin 437 lbs & Larialmy 301 lbs (red team) - husband and wife team who both want to get the weight off and get healthy so they can live long lives together and raise children with a healthy lifestyle.
Ken 377 lbs & Austin 396 lbs (brown team) – a father and son team looking to get healthy. Ken says his primary reason for doing this is his son, who he does not want to face the same difficulties he has from being overweight. Austin, at the young age of 21 suffers from sleep apnea, high blood pressure, and is pre-diabetic. Austin says he is doing this for himself and his health and he will pay it forward to motivate others after he is done.
Jay 400 lbs & Jennifer 278 lbs (green team) – a father and daughter team desperate to get the weight off and learn how to keep it off. Jay decided to do the show for his daughter, as it has been a dream of hers, but quickly came to realize that he needed the help more than she did. Jennifer has struggled with gaining and losing weight all of her life and would like to put that to an end once and for all by getting and keeping it off.
Jesse 293 lbs & Arthur 507 lbs (blue team) – a father and son team both looking to change their lives. Jesse was inspired by his son’s motivation to make the show and when he saw the hope in Arthur’s eyes that was it for him. Jesse was also inspired by one our favorites from season 9 – O’Neal Hampton. Arthur, the heaviest contestant this season has numerous health issues and being a dad now has made him realize he needs to get healthy. While he may be compared to Michael Ventrella, the shows heaviest contestant ever, Arthur at 507 lbs only stands 5’8 while Michael was well over 6′ tall. Arthur has proven his motivation as he has lost some weight at home as well in quest to regain his health.
Dan 287 lbs & Don 309 lbs (black team) – a team of identical twin brothers, both police officers looking to get healthy for their children. Dan told a heart wrenching tale of how he lost his 24 year old son to drugs, but how he overheard his son commenting on how proud of his dad he was for losing some weight prior. Also having a 9 year old daughter, Dan is determined to change his life and make her proud of him as well. Don, also has a son who won’t even speak to him because of his weight gain, thinking his dad is just going to die. This has Don determined as well to change his life for his family and become healthy again.
Marci 238 lbs & Courtney 323 lbs (aqua team) – a mother and daughter team both determined to lose weight. Marci wants to get her weight off and prove to be a good role model for her three daughters. Courtney, who actually lost over 100 lbs at home know the remainder of her weight will be harder to get off, thus why she wanted to enroll the help of The Biggest Loser.
Now that you have met the season eleven teams of The Biggest Loser, how did they fare their very first week on the ranch? Ali kicked us off tonight with a challenge and some big news. First she told the contestants that they would be completing the 500 step challenge and the reward would be the choice of whom to train with. Then she decided to drop the bombshell filling the contestants in that it would not be a choice between Bob Harper and Jillian Michaels, but a choice between working with both Bob and Jillian or two new unknown trainers. As if that were not enough, any team who chose the unknown trainers would be automatically given 4 weeks of immunity, while those who chose Bob and Jillian would risk elimination each week. Whichever team came in first would have the option of one week of immunity if they chose Bob and Jillian versus 4 weeks of immunity.
On to the challenge, the yellow team finished up first closely followed by the grey team. In a shocker, because I would have thought an Olympian would have wanted to work extremely hard with Bob and Jillian, the yellow team chose immunity and to work with the unknown trainers. The grey team also chose the unknown trainers and immunity as did the brown team, pink and red team. The blue team, green team and purple team all chose Bob and Jillian and the remaining three teams were given no choice but Bob and Jillian as they only had five spots for the unknown trainers. As for the new trainers, we once again did not get to see more than a mere, dark, silhouette of them and we barely saw any of the workouts from these teams, not that it mattered as they would not be weighed in yet anyway due to the immunity.
Bob Harper and Jillian Michaels were hard at work with the remaining contestants though, and Jillian even vowed to stop yelling….yeah maybe that is not going to happen! Bob and Jillian not only had the contestants work out in the gym, but they also had to pull a pick up truck around the ranch, talk about a workout! Unfortunately though, it was then time for their first weigh in and someone would be heading home. Here is how the teams fared at the weigh in (remember those teams working with the unknown trainers did not weigh in):
Marci from 238 lbs to 224 & Courtney from 323 lbs to 308 lbs for a total loss of 29 lbs
Jesse from 293 lbs to 286 lbs & Arthur 507 lbs to 476 lbs for a total loss of 38 lbs
Jay from 400 lbs to 374 lbs & Jennifer from 278 lbs to 258 lbs for a total loss of 46 lbs
Hannah from 248 lbs to 232 lbs & Olivia from 261 lbs to 245 for a total loss of 32 lbs
Ana from 255 lbs to 246 lbs & Irene from 255 lbs to 242 lbs for a total loss of 22 lbs
Dan from 287 lbs to 266 lbs & Don from 309 lbs to 290 lbs for a total loss of 40 lbs
This meant that the orange team fellow below the yellow line tonight and were up for elimination. It was an easy first elimination however, as Ana pleaded with the contestants to send her home and keep her daughter there and they all respected her wishes. To date, Ana has dropped 50 lbs and is living a much healthier lifestyle. She also hopes to be down 100 lbs by the finale, see you there Ana!
