TLC Turns “Extreme Couponing” Special Into Show

According to Entertainment Weekly, TLC’s “Extreme Couponing” special was so popular the network’s turning it into a show.
EW says the series will carry on in the same vein as the special, featuring obsessive bargain hunters whose lives revolve around coupon-clipping, searching for big savings and stockpiling their finds.
The online news magazine reports the original hour-long special got 2.1 million viewers watching and a lot of buzz on the internet for its potential to be a great show.
“’Extreme Couponing’ captured the audience’s attention because it taps into people’s desire to live a better life without spending more money,†Eileen O’Neill, president and GM of TLC, tells EW. “The series will share even more tips and profile passionate people who have turned clipping coupons into a way of life.â€
Clips for the new series show one woman only paid $2.64 for more than $600 worth of merchandise. With unbelievable savings like that, it’s no wonder people tuned in for the special.
TLC ordered production of 12 half-hour episodes to air sometime this Spring.
