ABC’s Dancing with the Stars pro Maksim Chmerkovskiy says he turned down offers to do the American Bachelor in favor of one in the Ukraine, however, sources say he was never offered the spot, according to Entertainment Weekly. Read on for more details…
An ABC insider tells Entertainment Weekly Chmerkovskiy did meet with the network, but was never offered a gig on the long-running dating show.
The source says The Bachelor’s shooting schedule would conflict with Dancing with the Stars, which comes back in March, and viewers wouldn’t think “notorious playboy” Chmerkovskiy was on the show for the right reasons.
Chmerkovskiy writes on his website that he’s “turned down the American version,” referencing his decision several times. He explains his choice, stating someone once told him “you do not have to remember what you said if you never lie,” claiming he’s followed those words of wisdom for his entire life.
Regardless of whether or not ABC offered him the gig, Chmerkovskiy is going to appear on a Ukrainian version of the hit American show after famously saying he would never go on a dating show. He says filming the show will be a much needed break from physical activity.
As to why he chose the Ukrainian “Bachelor” (if a choice had to be made):
“There has never been a show such as this in Ukraine and it makes me think that a first season would be the most ‘real’ as far as participant’s perception of ‘what its all about’ is concerned.”
Chmerkovskiy is going in with an open mind for finding love on TV and says he doesn’t want to reveal too much about the show, but is “pleasantly surprised so far.”
