Express.co.uk reports season nine Big Brother U.K. contestant Kenneth Tong posted more than one hundred messages encouraging women to aim for a size zero in just one week.
Tong posted he’s “proudly endorsing managed anorexia. Nothing tastes as good as thin feels†on his twitter page.
According to Express.co.uk, one of his comments said there’s “No point in debating this, all you females could stand to lose some weight, this is fact – please think twice before your next bite.â€
His tweets angered thousands of the social networking site’s users who posted their own comments decrying his statements. The immense negative reaction made Tong’s posts reach the top 10 subjects discussed among the site’s users.
Celebrity twitter users also got in on the discussion. Pop star Rihanna said “girls are dying all over the world because of Âignorant individuals like this.†Rochelle Wiseman, from British/Irish girl group The Saturdays, called his tweets “vile” and “upsetting.”
Mary George, a representative from eating disorder charity the Beat, said the charity received many complaints from victims of anorexia about Tong’s comments. George told Express.co.uk “Someone could lose their life. We ask him to think long and hard of the Âeffects these tweets are having on young people who are vulnerable and fragile. Often an eating disorder can be triggered by thoughtless remarks.â€
