Your OWN Show: Oprah’s Search For The Next TV Star on the Oprah Winfrey Network is now on a roll. The competition is down to nine finalists. The first contender eliminated was Leigh Koechner who shares her experience on her blog. Find out how she ended up on national TV!
Leigh was the playful, fun loving Mom of four from California who dreamed of having her own celebrity driven talk show. She got her shot at fame and fortune appearing on Your OWN Show but was eliminated in week one. While the experience didn’t go according to her plan, Leigh says she learned a good life lesson. The stay-at-home Mom isn’t giving up on her dream just yet—read part of her blog: “I Was On Oprah†below.
Tuesday morning I got a call. They said, “We saw your submission tape and you are what we are looking for. Are you interested in doing the show?†I said, “Yes, but I am not sure what you are talking about.†That is when I was filled in it was a reality show for Oprah’s new network, produced by Mark Burnett, to find the next big star and they were interested in me! The show was called, “Your OWN Show.â€
Kevin Costner was right, if you build it, they will come!
I did end up on Oprah and on OWN! Those dreams did come true. But, it was nothing like I thought it would be. I thought Oprah and I would be on the stage by ourselves in comfortable yellow leather chairs and chat about life, struggle, glory, love, god, Maya Angelou and other good stuff.
Instead, I got introduced with a group of people and didn’t talk! When Oprah threw a question out to all of us I had a dynamite answer and demurely started to share when someone jumped in and started talking. What was happening?
I just walked on, waved and walked off.
My dream did come true, but I wasn’t specific enough with it. All I told God was, “I want to be on Oprah and on her new network OWN†and I was! God gave me exactly what I asked for; I just left out the details.
I am ready for next time when I lunch with Oprah at her Montecito home. We will have a bottle of pinot griggo outside by the tree that she loves while I nibble on cheese and her favorite egg salad sandwich. It is going to be a blast! I will sing her part of the song I wrote and we will laugh and laugh. At the end she will ask me to come back with my children.
That will make me nervous, but will end up okay because when I go back with Dave and the kids, the kids, will run in the grass and play with Oprah’s dogs. When my son, Sargent, gets poop on his shoe (which will shock me that she doesn’t have someone there catching it just as it drops) I will call it a day and load everyone up in the minivan. My husband Dave will drive home because I had a couple glasses of wine, which Oprah will send me home with a couple of bottles because I love it so much.
Oh I got the lesson all right and I have the details. Boy, am I ready for next time!
