The Hollywood Reporter says the former season nine mentor was in talks with the network to join the show as a judge.
“I had a blast on the show,†Connick tells the magazine. “They asked me if I was interested. We had some preliminary conversations and it just kind of fizzled out.”
The Hollywood Reporter says Connick’s judging spot went to Jennifer Lopez and Steven Tyler instead. Connick is okay with the decision. “Fortunately, I had some other things going on. So it was fine.â€
The acclaimed musician/actor’s other plans include a PBS special, “Great Performances: Harry Connick Jr. in Concert on Broadway,†according to Fancast. Connick will also sing at Boston’s Colonial Theater from Apr. 26 to the 30th, for “Harry Connick, Jr. & Orchestra,” according to TheaterMania.
He will also star in Warner Bros.’ film, “Dolphin Tale,” featuring a-listers Morgan Freeman and Ashley Judd. According to Fancast, the film is based on a true story about a boy who helps an injured dolphin by convincing everyone to make him a prosthetic tale. It is scheduled for release this fall.
The singer is certainly keeping busy this year. Hard work has payed off for Connick in the past, earning him a Grammy and Emmy win and Tony nomination. He is perhaps best know for co-starring in NBC’s “Will & Grace” and has played sold-out shows on Broadway.
Do you think “Idol” made the right casting decision?
