Fox’s new American Idol judge and Aerosmith frontman Steven Tyler is getting a lot of flack from his band about his decision to go on the show, according to The Boston Herald. Keep reading to see why he decided to go for it anyway…

The Boston Herald reports new American Idol judge Steven Tyler made an unpopular decision with his band when he signed on to the show. Tyler doesn’t let it bother him.

“Everyone’s got their opinion,” Tyler says. “I want to test my limitations…I’ve been judged all my life for what I do. Many have things to say about it, but it’s not going to fly. I am who I am.”

Tyler briefly commented on his band’s reaction at the Television Critics Association panel, saying they thought he was a sellout for doing “Idol,” but focused more on the new season and Aerosmith’s new album, according to the NY Daily News.

Despite the band’s “Idol” critiques, Tyler says the group is “ready to rock on a new album,” but has one problem: they can’t find lead guitarist Joe Perry.

Tyler told Rolling Stone the band can’t find Joe Perry last week. He said Perry has  “LSD — Lead Strummer Disorder” and “he’s just going through his thing.”

“I’ve called most of them and said, ‘Let’s get together in L.A.,’” Tyler tells The Boston Herald. “So January, February, March, April and May, we’re going to be working on a new record, hopefully recording in June, July and August, and then going on tour in September, October, November, December, and then doing ‘Idol’ again.”

Looks like Tyler’s making sure to fit his band in with his new “Idol” schedule.

Tyler says many “Idol” contestants have tried to rock Aerosmith songs for the judge, especially the band’s hit ballad “Don’t Want to Miss a Thing,” in the hopes of impressing him, but messed it up over and over.

Tyler brings his own persona to the show and told TCA attendees he refuses to be censored by Fox, the NY Daily News reports.  The new revamped season of “Idol” premieres Jan. 19 on Fox.
