If you hate E!’s “Bridalplasty,” you’re not the only one. The CW’s wedding weight-loss show, Shedding For The Wedding, producer loathes other wedding makeover show “Bridalplasty.” Keep reading to see why…
TV Guide reports Shedding For The Wedding executive producer Dave Broome had some not-so-nice things to say about E!’s plastic surgery bridal makeover show “Bridalplasty.”
“I despise ‘Bridalplasty,’” he told press at the Television Critic’s Association previews. “I would never make a show like that.”
Both shows depict contestants competing for a dream wedding and perfect body, but the means of achieving those goals are quite different.
On E!’s ‘Bridalplasty’ brides-to-be compete for plastic surgery procedures in the hopes of being “perfect” by their wedding day.
“When ‘Loser’ came on, Fox had the makeover show that was a plastic surgery competition, ‘The Swan,’” Broome said. “I used to say The Biggest Loser was the anti-’Swan’. Well I think Shedding For The Wedding is the anti-’Bridalplasty.’ This is about losing weight for couples the right way and trying to get their life started.”
Host Sara Rue, actress and former Jenny Craig spokeswoman, also said the show is not just about a physical change.
“Yes [the show is] about weight loss, but it’s also about these couples really bonding and making each other better so they can start their lives off together at their happiest and healthiest.”
According to TV Guide, Rue identifies with the couples because she herself lost 50 pounds and is going to get married.
“Bridalplasty” producers have yet to comment on Broome’s remarks.
Shedding For The Wedding premieres on Feb. 23 at 9/8c on The CW.
