Pac-Man Reality Show In The Works

January 16, 2011 02:00 PM by Paula_Kosowski

The “Pac-Man” video game is getting its own reality TV show.  If you’re as puzzled by the theme choice as I was, it’s going to be a game show envisioned after Wipeout and The Amazing Race. Keep reading to see what the Merv Griffin Entertainment team has in mind…

Classic arcade game fans will  have a whole new way to play “Pac-Man” soon enough with Namco Bandai and Merv Griffin Entertainment teaming up to develop a reality show based on the character.

According to The Escapist, the team wants to turn the ghost, fruit and white dot munching game into an unscripted game show.

Roy Bank, president of television at Merv Griffin Entertainment, compares the show to Wipeout in which contestants fight their way through crazy obstacles to win a grand prize.

“The idea we have is to take what  ’Pac-Man’ is and bring it to life, to bring what is essentially the world’s biggest game of tag to television,” Bank tells Deadline.

The Escapist says they’re not exactly sure how the game will work, and we aren’t either. They predict seeing a lot of colorful costumes reminiscent of the game’s characters.

According to CNN, this year marks “Pac-Man’s” 30th anniversary.

What better way to memorialize a beloved video game character than on reality TV.

The Escapist reports the “Pac-Man” development team is currently shopping around for networks to air the show. According to CNN, it will tie-in with “Pac-Man’s” 30th anniversary plans.

We’ll see if the show actually gets picked up. Do you think there’s enough there to create a game show people will watch?
