The Bachelor host Chris Harrison has no problems with ABC’s decision to recast unpopular former “Bachelor” Brad Womack and says ratings will gradually increase. Keep reading to see why he’s defending the network’s choice…
Entertainment Tonight spoke with Chris Harrison about this season of The Bachelor and how casting Brad Womack affected the show’s ratings. The website asks Harrison if low ratings are due to ABC’s choice of an “unpopular” “Bachelor.”
Harrison says the show never gets high ratings right off the bat and it takes a while for the number of viewers to build. “I guarantee you that Brad will be the same way. I garner interest from Twitter, Facebook, radio interviews and people talking on the street. Definitely, the presence is strong and, I think, he is going to do great.”
Harrison tells Entertainment Tonight ABC made a good decision casting Womack.
“The great thing about Brad and why he was a good choice no matter what happened, it was going to be great TV. If he didn’t choose anybody and goes down in flames, come on! That would have been epic. The other side is, if he finds somebody that is going to be a good story. Either way, for us, as producers, he was going to be great.”
Entertainment Tonight reports Harrison also says Womack’s backstory adds a new twist to the show.
“This season is unlike any “Bachelor” season we have had before,” he says. “We have never brought back a “Bachelor” before. He is an interesting character with his demons and the issues he is dealing with.”
Harrison says Womack’s age also allowed ABC to cast a more mature group of women with equality interesting stories.
He tells Entertainment Tonight we can expect a lot more drama and “cattiness” this season.
As for the finale, Harrison tells the website: “I guarantee if you are a “Bachelor” fan — and even if you are not — you will love this season. It is phenomenal. One of our best.”
Do you think the ending will live up to the hype?
The Bachelor airs Monday nights at 8/7c on ABC.
