Celebrity Apprentice winner Bret Michaels is going under the knife today to fix a hole in his heart. Doctors found a hole in Bret Michael’s heart after he suffered a warning stroke. Keep reading for more details on his condition…
According to NBC news, “Celebrity Apprentice” winner and Poison frontman Michaels is scheduled for surgery today at the St. Joseph’s Hospital and Medical Center in Phoenix to close the hole in his heart.
Michaels told the Arizona Republic, “Barring any complications, I should be out within three to four days. Then, I will be down (resting) for three weeks. I don’t know if I can sit around for that long, but I’ll try my best.”
NBC reports the procedure, called cardiac catheterization, involves inserting a permanent closure device into Michaels’ heart which will stop abnormal blood flow between the heart’s two chambers.
Doctors believe Michaels’ stroke last year was caused by this abnormal blood flow. They say if the reality star didn’t undergo the procedure he would be at risk for suffering another stroke and developing blood clots.
Last April Michaels was treated for a brain hemorrhage at St. Joseph’s Hospital, according to NBC news. That’s when they found the hole in his heart, which they think caused the stroke.
Michaels’ representative told the Hollywood Gossip “Bret is looking forward to feeling 100 percent again.”
