PopEater reports Bret Michaels is doing well a day after surgery to close a hole in his heart at St. Joseph’s hospital in Phoenix, Arizona.
A representative for the hospital told PopEater the surgery was “successful,” saying, “Michaels is currently recuperating at St. Joseph’s where he remains for observation in ICU.”
The former Poison frontman and reality star told PopEater he’s hoping everything turns out well.
“It’s 95 percent unbelievably great results,” Michaels said of the operation. “Of course, there’s always the 5 percent risk at anything you do with this kind of thing and I’m hoping I’ll be in the 95 percent category.”
Michaels perviously told People he’ll spend about three days in the hospital and “three weeks after that just really, really, really taking it easy.”
According to PopEater, Michaels had to be operated on because doctors found a hole in his heart last May after he suffered a warning stroke.
The website reports the 47-year-old rocker’s problematic medical history made the surgery more risky. Michaels has struggled with Type 1 diabetes for 40 years, has had an emergency appendectomy, and brain hemorrhage, according to PopEater.
Despite his many medical problems, Michaels remained positive about the surgery and future goals, joking he’d make a good President. “I’d be good,” he told PopEater. “When I am drinking beer at the bar I have all the world’s problems solved.”
