A sneak peak of next week’s NASCAR group date on ABC’s The Bachelor has everyone talking as contestant Emily Maynard, whose NASCAR driver fiance died in a plane crash, is shown trying to keep it together. “Bachelor” host Chris Harrison confirms producers intentionally scheduled the NASCAR date to include Emily. Keep reading for more details on why Harrison says they wanted her to be there…

The obvious connection between “The Bachelor’s” NASCAR date theme next week and Emily’s past has left a lot of viewers speculating producers planned it to capture some drama for the show.

According to Reality TV World, Chris Harrison admits producers intentionally scheduled “The Bachelor” NASCAR group date with Emily in mind.

Harrison tells TV Guide, “We have to force the issue because we have such a time constraint. It puts Brad on the spot, puts Emily on the spot, like you guys are either going to deal with this and go forward, or it’s not going to happen and it’s over.”

The “issue” being brought to the forefront is, of course, Emily’s heartbreaking story of finding out she was pregnant just days after losing fiance Ricky Hendrick in a plane crash in 2004.

Harrison says he understands why viewers would react to the promo with criticism, but asks people to see how the entire date goes over before making a judgment.

“If you take it at face value, I get why people are angry, but people need to see the date and see how it plays out,” he says.

Harrison calls the moment a “breakthrough” and says it was “therapeutic for Brad and Emily.”

“It’s a very moving episode and obviously a moving date. It’s definitely scary, but again if you play armchair psychologist, it’s kind of a hurdle they need to get over.”

Harrison says Brad getting to know Emily’s backstory allows him to be less intimidated by Emily and decide whether or not he’s serious about her.

Do you think producers made the right call to bring Emily to the racetrack?

“The Bachelor” airs Monday nights at 8/7c on ABC.

I wish I would of kept that episode, but I didn’t. But I am pretty sure that Emily told Brad that her fiance took the flight to watch a nascar race and she didn’t make it because she was not feeling well. If she had been on that plane, then she would not be alive today. And now they are saying that he died on the race track??????????

I found this contradiction as well. First she said he died in a plane crash on the way to a race and this week she says he died on the Las Vegas racetrack. Which is it? Makes me wonder if she’s telling the truth and what is embellished.

I had to rewind that part of the episode myself. They did not say he died on that racetrack. They said that he had crashed on that track and that the crash had ended his racing career.

He wrecked on the track and had to stop driving. That’s when he became an owner. She wasn’t lying. He died in a plane crash. That track was just the last place he raced as a driver.
