Top Chef: All-Stars host Padma Lakshmi is “devastated” after learning that she’s being sued by her 11-month-old daughter, Krishna’s biological father, Adam Dell. Keep reading for more details on the Bravo reality TV star’s public custody battle, including info on how Lakshmi first heard the horrible news.
“She said, ‘I’m living in a nightmare,’” a friend of Padma Lakshmi told People magazine of the star’s current custody battle. “She’s a single working mother who is trying very hard to have a peaceful and calm environment for her daughter. The recent events are making it difficult.”
Another source close to the 40-year-old Top Chef host says that Lakshmi has always encouraged Adam Dell to be a part of their daughter, Krishna’s life, and that his visitation with the baby would increase as she got older, noting that so far, it’s been limited due to the fact that Padma is still nursing.
And though Adam Dell’s attorney insists that “there was no desire for publicity,” in the custody case, according to Lakshmi’s reps, she and her lawyers learned about the court filing through a statement Dell released to the press.
“Ms. Lakshmi looks forward to correcting the record in the courts, not the press,” Padma Lakshmi’s attorney, Jay Silverstein, said in a statement. “She is saddened and gravely disappointed that Mr. Dell has chosen a very public means of filing his petition with the court rather than doing so in a confidential or sealed manner, which is customary in cases involving a very young child.”
A rep for Lakshmi adds, “Ms. Lakshmi’s sole interest lies in preserving the privacy and welfare of her daughter and in working out a fair and amicable agreement out of the media’s glare.”
