If you tuned into the Grammy Awards this week and noticing they were missing one of American Idol on FOX‘s winner, Fantasia Barrino, that is because she was boycotting the show. So why wasn’t Fantasia there to accept an award that she had been waiting so long for? Keep reading for all the details!
That’s right, American Idol winner Fantasia Barrino was no where in sight when she won her award for “Best Female Vocal Performance” and as it turns out, Fantasia was actually boycotting the show despite the fact that she has been waiting so long to win a Grammy Award. But why did she boycott the show? In a recent interview with BET’s “106 & Park” on Monday Fantasia explained that her Grammy absence was due to the fact that she was not asked to participate in the tribute to Aretha Franklin, so instead she stayed home and watched the awards on television.
Fantasia Barrino, who will get to do a tribute to one of her other idols, Michael Jackson went on to tell the show hosts “I’m kind of going through my own little thing. Last night they were honoring someone who is my idol, Aretha Franklin, and there is no way I could have sat there and not got the happy feet and wanting to jump on the mic because she is my favorite so I felt like, you know, at the end of the day I should have been on that stage so, I kind of did my own little thing last night.” What do you think of Fantasia snubbing the Grammy Awards? Comment below and share your thoughts, we’d love to hear them!
