February 17, 2011 10:00 AM by Veronica Dudo

Your OWN Show: Oprah recently announced she had landed an interview with the National Football League’s Michael Vick scheduled for next week, but last minute Vick cancelled the interview.According to Entertainment Weekly, Vick’s representative issued this statement on behalf of the NFL player: “After careful consideration, I will need to postpone the taping of the Oprah Winfrey interview scheduled for February 22. I admire and respect Oprah and hope to be able to participate in an interview in the future.”

Vick served 21 months after his 2007 guilty plea for running an illegal dogfighting ring in Virginia. The controversial quarterback signed with the Philadelphia Eagles in 2009. Then, in 2010 Vick starred in a docu-series, The Michael Vick Project.

In a statement Harpo Productions announced: “Michael Vick was scheduled to be a guest on The Oprah Winfrey Show for an episode airing next Thursday, Feb. 24. Mr. Vick’s representatives called last night to cancel his appearance for personal reasons.”

Harpo had previously said Oprah would talk to Vick about his time in jail, his return to the NFL, his work with the Humane Society and his future plans.

The interview came about after Oprah appeared on the inaugural episode of Piers Morgan Tonight and the talk show hosts made a friendly wager–who could land Vick first.
