We’ve had Fans Vs. Favorites, Heroes Vs. Villains and now Boston Rob Vs. Russell. Throughout the years, Survivor has created its own battles consistently grabbing the highest ratings for its time slot. But now there’s a bigger war underway as Survivor: Redemption Island is going toe-to-toe with American Idol. Was the first episode of the new season based on the concept of outwit, outplay and outlast able to outdo the popular singing competition in round one? Not quite…
CBS issued a press release in which it’s reported Survivor: Redemption Island nabbed 11.17 million viewers with a 3.2 in adults 18-49. This puts Survivor: Redemption Island in second place in households for the 8 p.m. time slot across the country. CBS calls the performance “solid.”
But when looking at previous premieres, Entertainment Weekly reports Wednesday night’s was the lowest in Survivor history posting a 29 percent dip in viewership from one year ago during the premiere of Survivor: Heroes Vs. Villains.
Watch the video below to see when Boston Rob and Russell are introduced to the 16 new castaways:
Let’s hope the buzz about the incredible first episode of Survivor: Redemption Island will spark an interest in more viewers. The majority of opinions I’ve seen regarding the premiere have been extremely positive, with fans still chatting about the thick tension at the first Tribal Council.
