Extreme Makeover Home Edition: Ziegler Family, Dane Cook, and a Wedding!

February 20, 2011 06:58 PM by Candace Young

Tonight on Extreme Makeover Home Edition, the reality series will not only do a home makeover for Patrick Ziegler and his fiancee, Jessica, it will also host their wedding! Keep reading for all of the highlights from this episode in Fort Hood, Texas…

Staff Sergeant Patrick Ziegler was shot four times in the Fort Hood army base shootings and barely lived to tell about it. His fiancee, Jessica, stayed by his side through his entire recovery.

Ty Pennington and the design team board the Extreme Makeover Home Edition bus and watch a video about the couple, with Jessica describing their courtship and how she found out about the shooting.  She talks about how Patrick defied the odds, and says she wants to provide the home modifications she needs.  Ty tells the team the bus would be too obvious to surprise them on the base, so the design team is loaded into tanks!

The tanks reach their destination and open up. Ty emerges with his megaphone, followed by the team. Jessica, Patrick, and his platoon are waiting. Ty tells them they will get a new, permanent home.  The design team members visit the base memorial that commemorates the 32 injured and 13 who were killed in the massacre.

Leigh Anne Tuohy sits down with Jessica and learns about Patrick’s proposal, which came right after he began walking again. Paul talks to Patrick, and hears about what he’s accomplished that doctors told him he would never do, such as walking, and using his left arm.  After, Patrick tells Ty he wouldn’t have survived had it not been for Jessica’s support.  Ty tells Patrick and Jessica that they will be vacationing in Las Vegas while the build is completed – they’re thrilled!

Ty contacts Patrick and Jessica in Vegas to introduce them to the men from Tilson Builders and Dan Waller, who heads up an organization that builds free homes for military families – they donated the land. The men Patrick served with are on site to raise the American flag to kick things off.

Leigh Anne, Paul, and Xzibit are put in charge of planning Patrick and Jessica’s wedding by Ty. Leigh Anne is excited – not so much the other two! Leigh Anne arranges for the six members of the wedding party to meet her in Vegas to help let Patrick and Jessica know about the wedding.  At a Vegas show, Leigh Anne takes to the stage to honor Patrick, and to announce that their wedding will take place back in Texas. Their wedding party rushes down the stairs to hug it out.  Leigh Anne, Jessica, and the girls head to L.A. to shop for dresses.

Back in Texas, Paul is having a special bicycle made for Patrick by Ride2Recovery. Xzibit is planning the reception tent area in the backyard, and Ty is working on a headboard for the master bedroom using Patrick and Jessica’s love letters as inspiration.

Paul and Xzibit meet up with Duff Goldman from Ace Of Cakes to bake the wedding cake.  They plan something patriotic and military in theme.

On Rodeo Drive, Jessica finds the perfect wedding dress. She and her sister are moved to tears.

Patrick and Jessica are brought home early from Las Vegas to hear an announcement from Dan Waller that they’ve established a Fort Hood Victim’s Fund and want Jessica to help distribute it. Paul adds that CVS Pharmacy is kicking in $25,000.  Ty introduces comedian Dane Cook, whose father was a military man, to the stage. He gets everyone laughing and smiling.  Later, he goes to the house site and helps build a pergola.

The furniture is moved into the completed house and everyone dresses for the wedding! Ty (who has his hair combed!) takes Patrick into the chapel to get married. Everyone stands as Jessica comes up the aisle on her father’s arm.  They exchange personal vows and are pronounced husband and wife. They then are loaded into a limo to go see their new home!

The ‘Move That Bus’ moment happens and the Ziegler’s are overwhelmed and teary. They thank the builders, and then go in to check out the new house. Jessica pronounces the kitchen ‘stunning’ and they marvel at the accessibility. Paul comes in and tells them CVS Pharmacy donated and equipped a rehabilitation room in the house. Patrick says he’s ready to start working out!  They go in to see the master bedroom, and Ty draws their attention to the love letters on the headboard.

Finally, it’s time to check out the backyard. Xzibit points out that they have a spa. Patrick says it’s his new favorite part of the house. They then get to see the pergola with a giant movie screen inside.  Also out back is the guest-filled reception tent. Ty announces the newlyweds and they share their first dance together since the shooting.  Ty raises his glass in a toast and welcomes them home.
