American Idol: David Archuleta Dropped By Record Label

February 22, 2011 01:50 PM by Lisa Princ

American Idol on FOX alumni, David Archuleta seemed to have early success after he finished up as the season seven runner up. Recently however, David’s newest album is not keeping up with his first, so much that his record label has decided to drop him. Keep reading for more details!

American Idol‘s season seven alumni David Archuleta has recently been dropped from his record label – Jive records, which has been his home since 2008. David, who recently released his second album with the company, “The Other Side of Down” has only sold 63,000 copies since it’s release in 2010. That’s a huge difference from David’s self titled debut album, released in 2008 which sold over a million copies and was certified platinum.

After rumors started to buzz the web about David being dropped, The Hollywood reporter says that a Jive spokesperson confirms “David was released from our roster.” David, who was also quoted recently saying “I was just wondering what’s the future going to be like? How hard is it going to be? Am I going to be able to handle it all? I think part of that stress is good because it keeps you focused.” has yet to comment on this, but I have to wonder if he knew this was coming from his comments.

He did comment, and he was released because, even though Jive made offers to get him to stay, he decided that it was no longer a good fit and decided to move on. Same as with his management. Here is his vblog from today – http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L0UY9H3vMTM&feature=player_embedded

I’m not surprised David Archuleta left Jive, they look like a sinking ship … it’s a crime they didn’t give his album “The Other Side of Down” any publicity or promotion, it’s one of the best CDs I’ve heard in ages. Especially love the title track, “Elevator,” “Stomping the Roses” and “My Kind of Perfect” (which should’ve been a single, imo). Can’t wait till he tours!
