American Idol: The Top 24 Are Revealed

February 24, 2011 08:24 PM by Lisa Princ

American Idol on FOX teased us last night as 5 of the top 24 were revealed and tonight the remaining 19 are revealed as well. Will your favorite make it? Keep reading to find out!

American Idol kicks off tonight with the reveal of the remaining 19 contestants who will make it into the top 24. But before they can reveal anyone, Jennifer Lopez has to pull herself back together after the loss of Chris Medina last night. The first contestant to get her news tonight was Karen Rodriguez whose final performance was a Spanish tune from “Selena” and it paid off as she is given the good news that she made it into the top 24. Next up was Robbie Rosen who also gets the good news that he has made it to the top 24 after numerous consistent performances, and Jennifer tells him he is one of the best they have seen.

Tatynisa Wilson was up next and despite her loss of lyrics during the Hollywood round, she came back and blew the judges away with her final performance of “Unbreak my heart” and gained her spot in the top 24. But next it was time for some bad news as both Brittany Mazur and Jimmy Allen were told they would not be making it. Tim Halperin was up next and after giving his all in his final performance, Steven Tyler tried to make him think he was not making it when indeed he would be joining the top 24. Tim’s Las Vegas partner, Julie Zorrilla was next to take the long walk and even though the judges told her that her performances lacked a little depth they told her she would be joining her partner Tim in the top 24.

The country boys were next up on American Idol and Scotty McCreery was the first to perform and in a shocker he chose a Josh Turner song with some “Idol” changes to the lyrics. It paid off big time for Scotty as he was given the news that he made the top 24, but unfortunately John Wayne Schultz did not make it. Jovany Barretto was next to walk the hall and he got the news that he made it into the top 24, not sure I agree with that one as I don’t think he is that good, but that is why they are the judges, right?

Then it was back to the ladies judgements on American Idol as Lauren Turner made it into the judgement room and although we failed to see most of her performances in the past weeks, she made it to the top 24. But then it was time for bad news as Erin Kelly and Tiwan Strong were given the disappointing news that they would not be moving on. Rachel Zevita was next up and despite her inconsistencies, Rachel is stunned to learn she will be moving on. Kendra Chantelle and Jordan Dorsey were also told they would be making it into the top 24. Lauren Alaina, the Nashville favorite was next to meet the judges and her judgement started with Steven telling her how they fell in love with her as soon as they met her and though they tried to scare her and then filled her in that of course she would be making the top 24.

Stefano Langone was up next on American Idol to hear his fate and after a great final performance, Stefano is told that he has made the top 24. The final performance of Jackie Wilson who sang “because of you” did not impress the judges and was not consistent with her earlier performances and therefore she would not be heading into the top 24, but heading home instead. Rising star Jacob Lusk hopes to hear some good news as he walks the “Green mile” and on his final performance he is once again shining in his strong vocals. Randy tells Jacob how much they have been “blown away” by his performances and they deliver the news that he is in the top 24 and Jacob is probably the most excited contestant we have seen thus far as he went running, screaming, and jumping for joy.

New Jersey hopeful Pia Toscano was next up and the poor girl was such a bundle of nerves that she was shaking, but then she was told that she made it. James Durbin was up next and for his final performance he needed to show the judges that he could control his voice as easily as just belting it out, and he did just that earning his spot in the top 24. With only two spots left for the men, Casey Abrams is up next to hear his fate and in a comical twist he decided to prove he could be sexy in his last performance as he showed up with his bass again for jazz performance that the judges loved. Randy tells him that he never seen anyone as talented in so many things as Casey and then gives Casey a big welcome to the top 24.

The last two girls, Thia Megia and Jessica Cunningham, who has auditioned 7 times are both brought in at the same time. Despite it being Jessica’s birthday the judges decided to keep Thia and send Jessica packing, with Jennifer telling her that she should try and audition again. Next up are the final three guys – Brett Loewenstern, Jacee Badeaux, and Colton Dixon. The three guys would get to see the judges together to see which one would be making it into the top 24. During the final performances, Brett decided to sing his own song while Colton showed his true potential once again and Jacee was as cute as ever. I am not sure the judges made the right decision, but they decided to send Brett through to the top 24 and send Colton and Jacee home.

These lucky 19 contestants will be joining Naima Adedapo, Clint Jun Gamboa, Haley Reinhart, Paul McDonald and Ashton Jones to make up your top 24 for season ten of American Idol. That wraps up tonight’s episode, be sure to tune in next week at 8 pm EST on FOX on Wednesday as the guys take the stage!

I absolutely loveddddd Chris Medina! I am so mad that Scotty McCreery made it through and not Chris! I love both of them, it really disappointed me, though i was surprised red headed gay dude was picked and not the rocker! He’s so much better!

I don’t think Scotty McCreery belongs to Top 24, the judges should have chosen up Chris Medina or Jacee Badeaux. It just clearly shows that the judges have “favoritism”

I was dissapointed that J.C. and Chris Medina were not in the top 24, they were and could have been that voice that was unique and strong contenders in this competition.

I disagree with you, I think Scotty very much deserves to be there. Nothing against Jacee or Chris, but there are a few others in that top 24 that could
have been replaced by Jacee or Chris. I don’t get the favoritsm comment, I mean Scotty got in on his talent – he is definitely one of the better male singers and my guess is he will make it far in the competition :) JMO

Scotty did an awesome job, no matter what.. But I do believe whenever he gets sent home, he will still make it big.. so its a win-win situation for the hottie. He’s also GORGEOUS, so he has a lot going for him..
