As the cheftestant with the most wins under his belt on Bravo’s Top Chef: All-Stars, everyone was shocked to see Dale Talde eliminated in last night’s episode. But according to Dale, he had a feeling that he could be on the chopping block during the Elimination Challenge.
“I just couldn’t get my a– in gear. I could not get in gear for some reason. I was in the juice. I should’ve stopped and re-conceptualized things, but I didn’t and that was my failure,” Talde tells TV Guide of his performance during last night’s Elimination Challenge.
Dale was so frazzled and fatigued, that even the helpful hands and encouraging words of the recently eliminated Angelo Sosa couldn’t calm him down enough to fix the dish that eventually sent Talde packing.
“He helped me a lot, but I mean, put yourself in his position. Fifty-two straight challenges for that guy. That’s crazy. Crazy! I mean, really, it’s masochistic,” says Dale. “It’s like, why put yourself through that again? But he did. Sometimes you have no more gas in tank. … He did [try to talk me up]. He saw me with my head down and he was like, ‘Dude, you’ve got to get your head up. Keep your head up, man.’”
And Angelo Sosa has continued to help Dale Talde outside of the Top Chef kitchen. “He’s a buddy of mine. He’s my merman,” says Talde. “He’s helped here at [Buddakan]. He opened the restaurant.”
So what’s Dale Talde got planned now?
In addition to working at Buddakan, and developing a Thai/seafood restaurant, Dale’s also working on another restaurant project that was inspired by his days on Top Chef: All-Stars… A pop-up by the name of Bodega. Sound familiar?! It should! And with enough investors, you could soon be seeing a Bodega “popping up” near you! Can’t wait!
