America’s Next Top Model: Angelia Alvarez Talks About Being First Model Eliminated

February 26, 2011 10:30 AM by Allyson Wells

Angelia Alvarez has the unfortunate distinction of being the first model eliminated from America’s Next Top Model.  However, Angelia is not letting it get her down.  She reveals what her experience on America’s Next Top Model was like, Tyra Banks’ cruel joke, what happened to those other models that actually did get cut from the show, and what it was like walking in that crazy bubble on water.

Question: What was it like to be tricked into thinking you were going home only to find out you were actually a part of the final 14?

Angelia: Oh my gosh, that was such an evil prank! I can’t even find the words to express how it is. I went through so many emotions that day, going from feeling really confident, and then drug all the way down, and then being brought back up again.  It’s an emotional roller coaster! I can’t imagine what it must have been like for the girls who got a photo only to be sent home!
Question: What was your reaction when you thought you didn’t make the cut after Jay handed everyone their envelopes and your picture was not inside?

Angelia: I was shocked when my picture wasn’t inside the envelope. I had to take like a double look at it, and I looked around and all the girls that I thought would make it inside the house-we all didn’t have pictures-so we were frustrated and angry and we just wanted to go and they wanted to bring us upstairs and wait, like an hour we had to wait before they finally told us that we made it into the house.
Question: How do you think the girls who received their pictures in the envelopes and were so excited to move on in the competition felt once they realized they were the ones who actually didn’t make the cut-did you ever get a chance to talk to any of them?

Angelia: You know, I have not gotten a chance to talk to any of the girls who got sent home. My heart goes out to them because I can’t imagine being on that side, where you were told, ‘Yes, you made it into the house,’ and then all of a sudden you’re back down at a bus to leave and they tell you, ‘No,’ you’re going home.’ I’m grateful that I was on the side that was told “No” first and then I made it in. I felt horrible. I felt bad for them, but at the same time, I was happy that I got in.
Question: Tell us about what it was like walking inside a huge plastic bubble. That must have been really difficult!

Angelia: Oh my goodness, it was difficult, and hot and stuffy! All you can do is try to concentrate on staying on the ramp without looking down. There was confetti anywhere, and I had a really long dress on so I was trying to stretch my legs, and then it looked like I was marching. It’s something you’d only see on Top Model. I’d rather not have that experience again.
Question: If you had to make a prediction about who would win the cycle, who do you think it would be?

Angelia: I would honestly say between Brittani, Molly, or Jaclyn.
Question: You said you will definitely make it on your own in your final words, so how do you intend to do that and do you plan on continuing modeling still?

Angelia: Yes, I plan on going to agencies. I’m hoping to get signed and I want to go to New York and LA and maybe get signed down here in Miami, FL. So, I’m definitely not giving up my modeling career. I’m going for it.
Question: Since you were the first girl to be eliminated, do you wish you just had not bothered trying to go on America’s Next Top Model at all, or are you happy you made the attempt and got to experience what you did up to that point?

Angelia: No, I’m very happy that I tried out and I got into the house. It’s a big step and a lot of girls don’t even make it to LA and I got the cut to go into the house. So, I definitely don’t regret it and I would do it again for the experience.

I think that Tyra Banks is the greatest person because she gives young women a chance to express themselves without having any expectations of who they are. I believe that if we did not have someone like miss Tyra young women would not have a chance to be in a show that lets them experience what it takes to be a model in todays society
