Survivor: Redemption Island — Slight Ratings Gain

February 28, 2011 04:00 PM by Ryan Haidet

Up directly against American Idol on Wednesday nights, Survivor: Redemption Island has seen a dip in the ratings this season posting the lowest premiere in the show’s history.  While the first episode this season only carried 11.17 million viewers, episode two brought in stronger ratings.  But not by much.

Entertainment Weekly reports the second episode of Survivor: Redemption Island was viewed by 11.2 million people and placed second in households.

CBS issued a press release last Thursday saying Survivor: Redemption Island had gained 3 percent in adults 18-49 when compared with the first week.

On the other hand, American Idol on Fox nabbed 22.6 million viewers as two hours of dramatic footage was showcased with the judges announcing some of the top 24 singers.

In week one of the reality war, American Idol had 22.8 million viewers, which more than doubled Survivor‘s take.

But despite these numbers, let’s be honest.  Survivor is holding strong against one of the toughest competitors in television.  A show that has been on for 22 seasons and still gets this many people to sit down and watch is absolutely amazing.  Survivor has done remarkably well.

I hope the uptick in ratings is a trend we see for the rest of Survivor: Redemption Island.  This season has proven it’s worth watching with a very entertaining start as fans can’t seem to stop chattering about it.

You’ve got it wrong. You should be talking about American Idol of how long that waste of time show has been on. That show was a joke back then and it is a joke now. With the exception of the last Survivor Season almost every year of Survivor is like watching the next season of the MLB. It’s just that time of year. American Idol should have gone off the air after Simon the Brit and Abdul left. Now that show is even more of a joke now with those has-been judges then ever. Jeff Probst has stayed with Survivor and remained loyal to it for he would be a fool to not. There are people in the world that would kill for Probst’s job so he better stay put as long as the show is on. But yeah it’s no reality war at all between these two shows. The Amazing Race is the only other show that can tie Survivor not those singing freaks.
