American Idol “Live” Performance Spoiler!

March 09, 2011 09:44 AM by Christine McDow

Don’t believe what you hear!  Tonight’s “live” episode of American Idol on FOX is not actually live!  In fact it was taped last night in Hollywood over a period of about three hours.  Why did FOX pre-tape tonight’s episode and why are they claiming it is live?  We are not too sure, but we do have spoilers for you from the taping!  Who sang what, who the judges liked, who the crowd liked, who no one really liked and even what some of them wore!  If you can’t wait till tonight keep reading for all the juicy details.

The American Idol top 13 sang last night in front of the judges and a full auditorium of viewers. You will see all of these performances tonight, but you don’t have to wait for all the information.

Since there are 13 and not 12, one of the questions have been when and if they will eliminate two singers instead of one. Well that will NOT be happening this week. However, the thirteenth singer may not have a completely fair shot at getting votes if America is not paying very careful attention. They do not use the number 13 because they claim it may be “unlucky”, so they give the thirteenth performer the number 36 instead.

This week the singers were told to choose a song from their musical idol. This can always be a dangerous week. Just because you like an artist, doesn’t mean you can sing like them. While practicing the American Idol contestants are paired up with a big time industry music producer such as Don Weiss, Christopher “Tricky” Stewart, Tommy West and a number of others. Before each contestant performs a video is shown of their rehearsals with the music producer.

Each singer sang for a total of one minute and 40 seconds. This makes a grand total of 18 minutes and 20 seconds of singing on tonight’s show. That tells you how much time is wasted by commercials, videos, judges and Ryan Seacrest’s ongoing opinions about the contestants.

So who sang what?

Lauren Alaina was up first and sang a Shania Twain song, “Any Man Of Mine”. The crowd seemed to like her and clapped along, but Steven Tyler said that she should have had a little more kick ass to her song.

Casey Abrams got the first standing ovation of the night (yes we said first). The crowd went crazy when he sang Joe Crocker’s “With A Little Help From My Friends”. Jennifer Lopez told Casey that he blew her away. Steven Tyler called him a rainbow of talent.

Ashthon Jones sang “When You Tell Me That You Love Me” by Diana Ross. The crowd was not too impressed and neither were the judges who only could say that they look forward to seeing more. Was that sweet talk or do they mean it?

Paul McDonald sang “Come Pick Me Up” by Ryan Adams. He moved around the stage a lot and the audience clapped, seeming to love it. Jennifer Lopez wasn’t so sure though saying that it was an obscure song choice and that she hopes America gets it.

Pia Toscano came out in an adorable dress and picked probably one of the more dangerous choices by singing “All By Myself” from Celine Dion. She nailed the performance however getting the second standing ovation of the night. The crowd started standing during the middle of the song, not even waiting until she stopped singing. The judges agreed that it is “hard to sing the Divas like Celine and Mariah, yet Pia did it so well”.

James Durbin sang Paul McCartney’s “Maybe I’m Amazed” and earned his own standing ovation for his performance.

Haley Reinhart sang a song from Leeann Rimes entitled “Blue”. The crowd liked her, some even stood up for her. Steven Tyler and Jennifer Lopez thought she was pretty good, but Randy Jackson called her “boring”. That statement was met with a loud “boo” from the audience. Oops!

Jacob Lusk sang R. Kelly’s “I Believe I Can Fly”. The audience loved him and gave him a standing ovation. The judges agreed that it was rocky and his pitch was off, but that he hit the high notes on the end wonderfully.

Thia Megia got only so-so comments from the judges regarding her performance of “Smile” by Michael Jackson. Randy Jackson thought the beginning was great, but that the end was a bit pitchy while Jennifer Lopez liked the way she moved on stage and said she hopes to see more.

Stefano Langone sang Stevie Wonder’s “I’m The Man Of Many Faces”. Steven Tyler said that his performance just built up like a volcano. Jennifer Lopez thought he sounded great. Randy Jackson claimed his performance was “soaring”.

Karen Rodriguez sang Selena’s “I Could Fall In Love With You” which bored Randy Jackson to tears. He said, It felt like you were fighting the song”.

Scott McCreery sang Garth Brook’s “The River”. The audience went wild and loved him giving him a standing ovation and the longest applause of the night. The judges agreed. Randy Jackson gave his strongest endorsement of the night saying that Scott McCreery could record an album now. Jennifer Lopez said it was great to see him performing for the audience as well as singing the song.

Naima Adedapo sang last. She performed “Umbrella” by Rhianna. Naima definitely didn’t disappoint, at least when it came to her outfit which consisted of outfit made up of sequined leggings, a leather corset and lace up converse. She danced a lot on stage and the audience got involved by standing, dancing and clapping while Naima sang. The judges thought she did pretty well too. Steven Tyler told her she had a few pitch problems but “lots of flavor”. Jennifer Lopez claimed Naima had the fire but needed to “work on control”. Randy Jackson “loved the reggae flair” but thought the cut-offs were a little rough.

We can not wait to see these performances tonight! From these spoilers we think we will like Scott, Pia and Casey the best. Which singers can you simply not wait too see? Let us know what you think and be sure to come back tonight to get more juicy gossip from the show.
