American Idol on FOX is back tonight with the top thirteen performances. This week the finalists will perform a song by their own personal “idol” and they get the chance to work with Jimmy Ivine for the first time this season. So what did your favorite perform and how did they do? Read on to see how your favorites fared this and then be sure to vote, vote vote!

Lauren Alaina
Lauren kicked off the evening with a performance of “Any Man Of Mine” by Shania Twain, her personal idol. The song fell flat for me personally – I love Lauren, but I was expecting something more from her this week. The judges were torn on her as they seemed to like her performance but as I agree they wanted to see more out of this rising star. Jennifer Lopez told her she wants to her kick it into high gear and that she has an amazing voice and has become super comfortable on stage but now it’s time to bring it. Randy was in agreement that she sang it well, but he went on to tell her that he thinks she doesn’t know how talented she is and he wanted something more. Steven was also in agreement telling Lauren that she needed to bring more “kick ass” to her performance.

Casey Abrams
Casey’s idol is Joe Cocker as he told us Joe doesn’t look that hot and referenced himself. Casey’s performance of “A Little Help From My Friends” earned him a standing ovation from the crowd as he was amazing and chose the perfect song for his voice – this was one of Casey’s best and a very powerful performance. The judges loved him as Jennifer said he “blew her away”, Randy told Casey that he was so unbelievable that he made listening to him fun and Steven called him a rainbow of talent.

Ashton Jones
Ashton chose to perform “When You Tell Me That You Love Me” by Diana Ross and while she looked stunning, this song in my opinion was a bore. The judges seemed to like her though as Randy said he was worried when he found out the song she was doing since it sounded a little safe but he liked it because he saw her grow as a singer. Jennifer told her what a professional she is becoming but she wants more, she wants to see Ashton start singing songs that we can all sing along with her, and Steven told her he liked it.

Paul McDonald
Paul was next up on American Idol with his version of his idol, Ryan Adams’ “Come Pick Me Up”. Paul is definitely unique and has a different voice making each song his own. Paul was a crowd pleaser tonight as he danced around the stage with his big smile as usual. Despite not knowing this song well, he was very good and the judges loved him as well. Steven told him that every song he sings winds up being his and although it was a little pitchy, he loves his voice. Jennifer liked it and loved how happy he made the audience, but she told him that she hoped America “got it” as she didn’t know that song. Randy told Paul that while this was not his most exciting performance, he loves the character of who Paul is and he is a huge fan.

Pia Toscano
Pia came out hoping to make her dad proud of her with a powerful and difficult song choice in which her dad has always wanted her to sing. Her version of “All By Myself” by Celine Dion I thought would be a disaster, but Pia proved me wrong as she was absolutely amazing. Pia looked stunning and tackled a song that most couldn’t, I definitely see the dark horse emerging – where was this girl during the auditions? The crowd loved her and gave her a standing ovation and the judges were in awe as well. Jennifer told her she she wasn’t sure how she could top last week and this was how. Randy doted on his experience on the show and how he tells everyone not to take on Celine, Mariah or Whitney unless they can pull it off in which she did – then in an interesting choice of words he called her performance hot, dope, cool and Steven thought she slammed it.

James Durbin
James was up next on American Idol’s top 13 performances with his version of “Maybe I’m Amazed” by his idol Paul McCartney and once again James blew the roof off the house as proved just how talented he is. James earned a standing ovation from the crowd, who would not stop clapping and the judges loved him. Randy told James he is one of his favorites and began to reminisce about “back in the day” that he loved these kind of voices that could sing everything. Then he went on to tell James he loved how he came out last week and rocked the stage with Judas Priest and then come out this week and slay a Paul McCartney just shows he can do anything. Steven told him he did such a good job and Jennifer told James to get used to the clapping and that he had a melodic quality that all great rock singers have.

Haley Reinhart
Haley came out look beautiful donning a black dress and gorgeous curls in hair as she performed “Blue” by LeAnn Rimes. I personally loved it and think she has a strong and unique voice. The crowd seemed to like it but the judges had mixed reviews as Steve said it was beautiful and told Haley he could hear America roaring over that performance. Jennifer told her she could “do things” with her voice and told her she had a unique voice just like Paul and her performance was very good. Randy, however disagreed as he said it had good parts but it was boring and sleepy for him and he expected more from a young lady with all this energy. Then Jennifer and Randy disagreed about it with Jennifer saying how sexy Haley’s voice was and that made Randy uncomfortable.

Jacob Lusk
Jacob was up next and his idol is R. Kelly and he chose to perform “I Believe I Can Fly” and all I can say is wow. This young man amazes us more and more every week with his incredible voice. The judges loved him and the crowd gave him a standing ovation. Steve told Jacob that it was “so good” and that his wings and voice would take him beyond his wildest dreams. Jennifer went on that it was very hard to judge him because he makes her feel so much when he sings but he is on the top of the list this season. Randy had a brief comical memory lapse about who found the talent and then he realized they did, and told Jacob how much he loved his signature sound and how he gets excited every time Jacob hits the stage.

Thia Megia
Thia hit the stage next and performed “Smile” by her idol the late great Michael Jackson. It was cute for me – she has a beautiful voice but it was a little boring. The judges were all in agreement about the start of the song being the best part with her just her voice as Randy said he loved the intro and it was pitchy in spots but it was good. Steven told Thia he liked it, although he liked the front more than end, but went on about she brought it. Jennifer agreed about the intro but went on to tell Thia that she loved seeing her move around and that she sings like an angel.

Stefano Langone
Our second wild card was up next with his version “Lately” by his personal idol Stevie Wonder and this was by far one of Stefano’s best performances. He took the song and mixed it up a bit to make it his own and he had the crowd going. The judges loved him as well as Steven told him he pulled it off and he loved how it built from the beginning to the end, like a volcano. Jennifer loved that Stefano had her dancing and told him it was not easy to take a classic ballad and do the dance remix, but then went on to tell him it was really him. Randy told him he slayed it and that Stevie Wonder would be proud.

Karen Rodriguez
Karen filled us all in that her idol was Selena and she decided to perform her version of “I Could Fall In Love With You” but it seemed to fall short compared to her last few performances that blew us away. The judges noticed something was wrong as Jennifer immediately asked if she could hear herself up there and noticed she was uncomfortable with some of the notes, but went on to tell her that she is one of the strongest girls. Randy said he felt like she was fighting the song and it was sleepy and boring to him. Steven agreed saying he knows Karen can sing better than this.

Scotty McCreery
Our country boy was up next with his idol, Garth Brooks’ “The River” and he sang it beautifully and it was refreshing to watch him get more comfortable and “perform” instead of just singing. Scotty received a standing ovation from the audience for his great performance and the judges loved him. Randy loved how Scotty’s motto was if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it and then he went on to say how it goes to show this exactly where he belongs and then tells Scotty he could put it out as a record right now. Steven told Scotty that he did Garth justice and Jennifer loved how aside from singing spot on, Scotty is now taking us all along for the ride with him.

Naima Adedapo
Naima closed the show tonight with her performance of “Umbrella” by her idol Rihanna and she came out rocking in her rocker costume and her performance was entertaining complete with a lightning storm in the background.Steven called her crazy good although she was pitchy, which earned boos from the audience. Jennifer told her she had fire and told her she was doing it like stars do it but she needs to work on her control. Randy said it was more the “cutoffs” in her singing that threw him off instead of the pitchy notes, but he raved that he loved it. Now, Naima’s voting number will be 36 and not 13 because they did not want to go with an unlucky number, so if you want to vote for her, be sure to remember 36 not 13.
