Last night on American Idol on FOX we watched as Ashton Jones was the first eliminated contestant of season ten. In a post elimination interview Ashton shares her experience and future plans. Keep reading for more details!
American Idol said goodbye to Ashton Jones last night, but Ashton hopes this is not the last we see of her and she also hopes she did not come across as a diva to viewers and fans. Here is what Ashton wanted to share about her experience and future.
Question: If you could go back and do it again, would you have chosen a different song?
Ashton Jones: Looking back on it now, at first I thought “I shouldn’t have chosen that song.” But I chose that song for a reason. It spoke to me and I related it to my life, my experience, my faith and the love that I have around me. As I was singing it, the lyrics are what spoke to me. I didn’t understand why that song wasn’t a big hit. I couldn’t wait to get on the stage. America didn’t really feel like I did but hopefully now that it’s on iTunes, people will start to feel it like I did.
Question: What was the best advice you received from the judges?
Ashton Jones: That would be from Jennifer Lopez. Jennifer always had some great things to say that came from her spirit. She always told me that I was amazing and that I would go far as well as encouraging me not to stop. She said to make sure a song is a hit before you put it out as a record. It was the best advice that she could give.
Question: Can you describe Steven Tyler in one word for us?
Ashton Jones: Fabulous. He was fabulous from his clothes to his shoes to everything about him. He did not care what he said, instead he said exactly what he was feeling and for the most part, everything was true and he was amazing. He was also very humble behind the scenes.
Question: We could see you were hurt leaving last night, can you tell us about the pain you were feeling?
Ashton Jones: It was not pain but it was more about leaving the stage and my friends that I had made. I just had to let it out. I always hold it in. I’m a very, very strong person. The things I’ve been through have made me stronger but sometimes, you have to let it out. You’ve got to show your emotion sometimes. I’m a real person. I’m just Ashton from Nashville. I cried because of all of the things that I went through on American Idol. I couldn’t believe that I had made it so far.
Question: What do you think America missed about you during the top 24 performances?
Ashton Jones: I don’t know, I have been wondering that myself. I just wanted people to see my personality. I don’t think that the show really showed that personality as much as I wanted to. I really didn’t want them to see me as a diva, like that I think I’m all that or anything. I wanted them to see that my confidence came from God. I have faith and confidence in myself.
Question: So will you go back to being the store manager from Nashville?
Ashton Jones: No. I left it there and I left it there to stay. I’ve worked all my life and now it’s time for me to be the performer and artist that God wanted me to be a long time ago. Hopefully, opportunities are waiting for me and I am very excited about what’s to come in my future.
Question: Tell us about the relationships you made on the show with other contestants.
Ashton Jones: I made so many best friends, I didn’t think I could have so many best friends. We all talk to each other. I lift them up, they life me up. I can cry on their shoulders, they come cry on mine. That’s what a best friend is, having people around you that are positive. My advice to everyone is just to never look at the blogs or read any negative comments. It’s gonna discourage you…and I learned that. You have to stay focused and you have to have people around you that are positive because it’s that energy that is going to make you a great artist.
Question: As you move towards your future, are there any specific artists or producers you would like to work with?
Ashton Jones: I had a blast working with Rodney Jenkins and Jimmy Iovine. They had me singing notes that I couldn’t even hit before. When you’re bringing the best out of someone. I think that they could be great producers I could work with. I would also love to meet Diana Ross someday.
Best of luck to Ashton Jones – we look forward to hearing from you in the future. Be sure to tune in to American Idol Wednesday on Fox as the top 12 will take the stage!
