It sure helps to have friends in high places — with a lot of cash! On Monday, Survivor winner, Richard Hatch, turned himself in to U.S. marshals to begin his nine month jail sentence for failing to pay taxes on his winnings from the CBS reality show. Now, Donald Trump tells People Magazine that he may get involved to help the Celebrity Apprentice contestant with his financial woes. Keep reading for all the details!
Survivor winner Richard Hatch may have made a few enemies on this season of NBC’s Celebrity Apprentice, but at least one person from the show is considering reaching out to him in his time of need in a really big way — Donald Trump himself!
“It sounds like a very tough predicament,” Donald Trump tells People Magazine. “I may ask him if there’s anything I can do … I may get involved and ask him what the hell is going on.”
Well… In a nutshell: Hatch surrendered to U.S. marshals on Monday, March 14 after a judge ordered that he return to jail for failing to pay the IRS the remaining taxes and fees (about $2 million total) on his Survivor winnings.
“He wasn’t loved on set because it’s a competition but I will say he was respected,” says Trump of Hatch, adding that helping the reality TV star pay his tax debt is “something I’d think about. He’s been a great character on the show.”
As for the show’s live finale, Trump says there’s a chance that Hatch could still make an appearance.
“If he makes it to the finals — and I’m not saying he is — I’m sure we can get him time off for good behavior,” he tells the magazine.
What do you think… Will Donald Trump help Richard Hatch pay the IRS?
