With all the changes to American Idol on FOX this season, including the departure of Simon Cowell and the addition of Jennifer Lopez and Steven Tyler there was a lot of speculation that the ratings and revenue would drop drastically for the show. That is not the case though as we have seen the ratings remain steady and now according to Forbes, Idol is still holding the top earnings spot as well. Keep reading for more details!
Since season ten of American Idol was announced to have all these changes, most people were speculating that the ratings and revenue for the show would drop drastically. As we have seen in the past 2 months since the show premiered it’s tenth season, the ratings have remained steady – and although they did drop slightly, the drop was not massive as everyone had assumed it would be. Now, according Forbes, American Idol has also remained the top earning television series so it looks as though that speculation can be put to rest as well.
Forbes magazine reports that American Idol brought in an astounding $7.11 million per half hour for the FOX network, according to estimates tallied by the financial magazine. While that may seem like a huge number, the figure was actually a 12 percent drop from 2009, but still enough to top the Forbes list and take the crown as top earning series. The show actually blew the competition out of the water with an almost $5 million per half hour lead on the 2nd place show, not too shabby for a show that also continues to hold the ratings crown.
