Dancing With The Stars: Wendy Williams Dishes About The Show, Her Dancing Partner and Reveals Her Toughest Competition

Dancing with the Stars: premieres tonight on ABC with the season 12 cast, including contestant Wendy Williams who gives us the inside scoop about the show!
She Knows Reality TV Magazine’s Veronica Dudo recently caught up with Williams who was hosting a party at the Pool After Dark inside Harrah’s Resort in Atlantic City. The talk show host opened up about why she decided to do the show, her long practices with dance partner Tony Dovolani and reveals who her toughest competition will be!
How did you join the Dancing with the Stars cast?
ABC called and I was told they were interested and this was before it got solidified and I guess they call when they fish first and so when I got that message I said well you guys figure it out and I’d like to do it. I have a whole team of people and they made it possible with scheduling and stuff so I’ll be dancing Monday.
Any goals heading into the premiere of Dancing with the Stars?
Well, I’m going to do the best I can. Who doesn’t want to be a “winner?” (laughs) But with that said better physical fitness and of course the ability to be able to dance the next time I’m invited to a wedding as opposed to sitting on the sidelines and to wow people and inspire people to think out of their comfort zone because this isn’t something that I have to do, this is something that I want to do. Ballroom dancing isn’t necessarily something a middle aged woman needs at that point in her life but with an opportunity like this and to be taught by a world-class ballroom dancer—why not?
How are you practicing with your partner Tony Dovolani?
Six days a week, five hours a day.
Yeah, it’s intense. They got us a studio in New Jersey so it’s convenient to our house and Tony comes to Jersey to practice. The talk show has been on hiatus for the past two weeks so that’s the only thing that I’ve been doing, along with taking care of my family so that’s good. Next week I’m looking forward to work with the TV show-with my show as well as doing Dancing with the Stars, so to me it will be the perfect storm.
You’re going to be bi-coastal doing both shows–Dancing with the Stars in California and The Wendy Williams Show in New York?
Who is your toughest competition?
Me and my two left feet!
The dancing roster includes Chelsea Kane with Mark Ballas, Chris Kericho with Cheryl Burke, Hines Ward with Kym Johnson, Kendra Wilkinson with Louis van Amstel, Kirstie Alley with Maksim Chmerkovskiy, Mike Catherwood with Lacey Schwimmer, Petra Nemcova with Dmitry Chaplin, Ralph Macchio with Karina Smirnoff, Romeo with Chelsie Hightower, Sugar Ray Leonard with Anna Trebunsakaya and Wendy Williams with Tony Dovolani.
Dancing with the Stars premieres tonight on ABC at 8pm|7c.
