If you find yourself having a hard time staying on track with a workout plan, or constantly find yourself saying “I don’t have the time,” I have a new mantra for you to repeat: JUST MOVE! You don’t have to carve out a large block of time every day to work on your fitness.
Anytime, anywhere, no excuses!
If you can fit in 20 minutes a day, 10 in the AM and 10 in the PM, you’re starting on the right track. I’ve found most people can do this easily when they break it up, and there are some great exercises you can do at home with little or no equipment. Like to relax and watch TV in the evening? Try to move your butt on the break. Every commercial break, get up from the couch and do a set of one of these exercises:
-Step-outs (with a stretchy band)
Remember to pay close attention to your form. Try starting out with one set of 20 reps, then step it up a little each week; the important part is to get moving and stick with it.
Watch everything OnDemand without commercials? At work, make it a point to get up and move once an hour for two to three minutes. Try to do your reps in your office or break room. Have a job where you’re mostly on your feet? Do like your mama always told you and stand up straight while you’re moving. Imagine a string going up from your head to the ceiling. Better posture will help you engage your core as you go throughout your daily routine.
Have an unpredictable schedule? Try the Underwear Trick to remember your ten minutes twice a day. Yes, underwear. The trick helps you fit in 10 minutes in the morning and at night, when you usually change. Silly, I know, but you’ll always remember your twenty minutes! You know, as long as you remember to change your undies…
