Dancing With The Stars: Derek Hough Reveals His Plans For The Show

March 27, 2011 08:00 AM by Allyson Wells

Dancing with the Stars premiered this week without one of its most popular stars, Derek Hough.  Fans were dismayed when Derek announced he was leaving the show.  The three time winning champ is busy working on other projects but recently revealed his future dancing plans.  Keep reading to find out when Derek is returning.

Derek told People Magazine that he plans on returning to Dancing with the Stars this fall.  “I told the producers I’m going to come back with a few new tricks.”  Derek took a break from the show after winning the last season with partner Jennifer Grey.  He has been filming a new dance movie called Cobu 3D with South Korean actress Boa Kwon or BoA.  The film is about dancers from rival families who fall in love and is tentatively set for an early 2012 release. “I’m learning so much.  I’ve been teaching so long and it’s interesting because now I’m like the student.  The role I’m playing required me to do things I haven’t done before.  I’m doing a lot of tapping, which is interesting because I’m not much of a tapper.”

While fans might miss Derek, some of his fellow co-stars are enjoying his absence and a chance to win.  Hough admitted he is having fun ribbing the dancers. He said to People, “I told Maksim Chmerkovisky, ‘Here you go buddy, now that I’m gone you can have this one.’”  Derek previously won the mirror ball trophy with partners Brooke Burke, Nicole Scherzinger and Jennifer Grey.
