When Celebrity Apprentice star Jose Canseco showed up at the Hard Rock nightclub to fight in a celebrity boxing match on Saturday night in Hollywood, Florida, fans noticed a little something different about the former MLB player. He just wasn’t himself — LITERALLY! Fans say that the fighter, who looked a lot like Canseco, had different tattoos, and seemed to be Jose Canseco’s twin brother, Ozzie.
“A bait-and-switch,” said celebrity boxing promoter Damon Feldman. “I’m disgusted.”
Feldman claims that he paid Jose Canseco $5,000 prior to the match, with plans to give him an additional $5,000 once Canseco arrived. It appears that the two didn’t iron out minor details like which Canseco would be participating in the fight!
“The guy I thought was Jose kept asking me to pay him in cash before [the fight],” recounts Feldman. “I told him I had to pay him by check for business reasons. He said he needed cash. We went back and forth.”
Jose (or at least someone with access to his Twitter account) later tweeted, “Be very careful with Damon feldman who runs celebrity boxing he will not pay you if you fight for him.”
Jose’s brother, Ozzie Canseco, who has subbed for his brother during autograph signings in the past, did not fight in the match, and had to be escorted out of the nightclub by police.
The two– make that three– parties have yet to settle their financial issues. While Jose Canseco feels that he should be paid for showing up to the fight, Feldman, who refused to pay
Jose Ozzie Canseco the $5,000 arrival fee, is demanding that Jose return the original $5,000 he was paid.
“I’ve worked with him before,” said Feldman. “Except now I’ve got to look back at the pictures at the time and look if I ever really met Jose Canseco.”
