How well do you know Gwyneth Paltrow? From her first movie role to her marriage to Coldplay’s Chris Martin, get all the facts about the Oscar-winning actress ahead of her episode of the NBC reality show, Who Do You Think You Are?, which airs Friday, April 1.
Academy award-winning actress Gwyneth Paltrow was born in Los Angeles, California to actress Blythe Danner and producer Bruce Paltrow.
But those aren’t the only big names in Paltrow’s family! Her godfather is director, Stephen Spielberg, and she’s actually the second cousin to Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords!
Gwyneth landed her first movie role in 1991 in the film, “Shout,” where she starred opposite John Travolta. In 1992, she appeared in the movie “Hook” as Wendy.
Just seven years after beginning her career in Hollywood, Gwyneth Paltrow earned the industry’s highest honor – an Oscar for Best Actress for her work in “Shakespeare in Love,” which grossed more than $100 million in the U.S..
After proving herself as an actor, Paltrow began to show off her skills as a singer in the 2000 film, “Duets,” where she performed a cover of Smokey Robinson’s “Cruisin’.” The song topped the music charts in Australia.
In 2003, Gwyneth Paltrow married Coldplay frontman, Chris Martin. The couple has two children together – Apple and Moses.
Now, Paltrow is making a name for herself as a singer (watch out Chris Martin!). Gwyneth stunned the entertainment world when she appeared on the FOX hit, “Glee” as a substitute teacher, and performed three songs, including a cover of Cee-Lo Green’s “Forget You,” which immediately topped the charts on iTunes. The actress went on to perform the song on Saturday Night Live and in front of music’s elite at the 2011 Grammy’s!
She also sang for her role in the movie “Country Strong,” where she appeared opposite of country star Tim McGraw, who also was featured on “Who Do You Think You Are?” this season.
