Rosie O’Donnell is no stranger to controversy, but after a few years off the radar, the comedian and talk show host, who was featured on this season of NBC’s “Who Do You Think You Are?” is ruffling feathers once again. And this time, it’s with Good Morning America host Robin Roberts. What did she say?
“I don’t know why this kid seems to be held to a different standard than anybody else,” Rosie O’Donnell said on her radio show last week, defending singer Chris Brown for his behavior after his now infamous Good Morning America interview conducted by host Robin Roberts.
During the interview, Roberts began to question Brown about the 2009 incident in which he violently assaulted his then girlfriend, Rihanna. The singer maintains that he was told this topic would not be brought up during the show, and that he was there solely to promote his new album. After an awkward line of questions, Brown stormed off the set and into his dressing room where he broke a window. Fortunately, no one was injured, and Brown later apologized.
But Rosie thinks that Good Morning America’s Robin Roberts is somewhat at fault.
“I felt mildly angry at Robin Roberts,” she told her listeners. “I felt like writing her and going : ‘Can you take a look at this again and see if you maybe could find — in any way — your responsibility in this?’”
The controversial TV personality then went on the mock Roberts, imitating her: “We invited him to come back, and he said, ‘No.’
“I don’t blame him,” said O’Donnell, who then went on to explain how she, in some ways, identifies to Chris Brown.
“Part of me wanted to take a chair and throw it through the window at ‘The View’ after all that happened,” Rosie said, referring to her on-air spat with co-host Elisabeth Hasselbeck.
After being reminded that there are no windows on the second floor of the studio by her producer, Rosie simply said, “There were no windows. It was like a prison.”
Do you agree with Rosie O’Donnell? Should Good Morning America host Robin Roberts take any of the blame for the Chris Brown incident?
