This week on American Idol on FOX fans were outraged and the judges were shocked when Pia Toscano was eliminated after her awesome Rock And Roll performance, but executive producer Nigel Lythgoe says he was not surprised because Pia was never a front runner. What is he talking about? Keep reading for more details!
American Idol’s executive producer Nigel Lythgoe did an on camera interview with Yahoo! Music’s Reality Rocks at Friday’s Vegas callback auditions for So You Think You Can Dance in which he revealed that Pia Toscano was never a front runner, not in terms of her voice, but it terms of the votes. Nigel said “I know the voting results, so I know she was never a frontrunner. The fact of the matter is that it appears that Pia didn’t connect with the audience as much as we maybe think she did. And she wasn’t voted through.”
Nigel Lythgoe did admit that he was upset with the results, as we all were and he also revealed some other thoughts. He added that he could see American Idol possibly changing the voting format next season to something like they do on So You Think You Can Dance. For those who have never seen So You Think You Can Dance, they allow America to determine the bottom three but the judges would decide who leaves the show. Nigel also stated that would ultimately be a call for Simon Fuller. What do you think of the possibility of changing the voting system? Comment below and share your thoughts with us!
